Both times I tried it I got horrible stomach pain--I think some people are probably sensitive to it because it is bee food. But if I could take it, and increase the diversity of my diet slightly (without counting on it), I might do it sometimes.

Joel Fuhrman's Fasting and Eating for Health is a fantastic resoource, he cites medical studies that look at therapeutic fasting. It explains why they recommend longer fasts be supervised; shorter fasts can be done more frequently and unsupervised.

I wasn't raw the couple times I went to the Yucatan, but I was vegan. Being raw would be much easier, in a way, since you avoid complicated things that might/might not be vegan. The only thing raw at restaurants would be fresh juice, salsa, and salad with NO toppings. They would put cheese even when I asked for no cheese, they just wouldn't understand (not as a language barrier, but conceptually-

Hemoglobin couldn't be negative--hemoglobin carries oxygen in the blood and makes it red. Anemic would be under 9 or 10 and above 11.8 is considered good. You would die long before it got to zero. I am not all raw, but am generally raw and breakfast and lunch, and dinner will have steamed greens and legumes. And I'm fairly slim but not very (BMI 20) and always COLD compared to when I was 15 pounds more! I do exercise a lot, so all that is covered. sciencegal, Thanks for the very interesting post. I am type 3 in the mid-latitudes and I can't imagine sitting outside in a bikini even this time of year. Some days in Sept and Oct are in the 40s, so I don't think it's realistic to count on getting vit D regularly then. Am I missing anything? I'm starting to take a vitamin already.
