This is great Mookie! I wish my mom would do what your dad is doing. She flipped when she first heard about me going raw, but after a few months, she started asking questions. She too has diabetes (recently diagnosed) and is vehemently opposed to dealing with it through the use of Insulin, so she has been watching what she eats. Maybe I should talk to her again. The problem is that she lives in C

Hey Elakti--
Support is important and that's why I have started participating in these forums -- to get and give it. I feel like I need to be better at this raw foods thing (which for me is so important to my health) if I am going to try to advise others, so you're supporting me while I attempt to support you (one of those synergy things!). So here's my 2 cents: Keep remembering how good you fee

I too work around "foofy" people, in a fine dining restaurant. I wash with about 2 teaspoons of baking soda and rinse with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. I am amazed at how healthy my hair looks and I can go longer without washing it now (3 days instead of two). I think my scalp is adjusting to not having the oils stripped from it.

Welcome Lynie! Keep the benefits you are experiencing in the front of your mind and ignore the naysayers because the proof is in the new you! Do you have farmers markets? Some of the regular grocery stores are starting to offer more organic choices also. Can you plant a garden? You can also get some non-perishable raw foods online (do a Google search). Good luck!

Hey DP! I empathize with you! I really want to do this too, but when reality hits and I get a craving for French Fries or whatever, I feel like a drug addict! I've been really fighting the cravings and not giving in to them lately by reminding myself of my goals: how I want to look and more importantly feel! I'm 46 and when I eat cooked food my back aches, my hands ache, my digestive system rebel

I think both. When I first heard about eating raw (1983ish), there were few raw foodists, little literature and no recipe books to my knowledge. I tried really hard to be a raw foodie but I didn't get very far. Fast forward twenty years: It's hard to find anyone into healthy foods who hasn't heard of it. It's great to be able to pull out a recipe book and make something delicious and creative or

Hmmm... I was with my dad when he died. It was very peaceful. He was asleep. I was too, with my head on his arm. Suddenly I woke up for no apparent reason. He took his last breath -- a gasp, and as he did, his spirit kissed my spirit goodbye. Then he left. His body was empty. When I looked at his face, all wrinkles had left his face, as did all the worry he had worn on his face (some people have

Interesting Post, Flex4life. My dad was a mess until he started smoking it regularly in the 70's. Then he became much easier to be around. It seemed to balance his emotions and his spirit. I have never known the reason it is illegal. I know the excuses, but for adults I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with it. Anything can keep you from being your best, but I think this stuff shoul

My three year old loves sprouts of all kinds. You could try grinding some and mixing them up with avocados. Avocados are perfect and were my favorite take-along baby food.

I know -- start smoking! TOTALLY kidding! Seriously, I struggle with eating when I'm not hungry, and I hate it! I do it when I have this great raw food energy vibe going and though I'm not really hungry, I eat something cooked and snacky if it's around, then hate myself for it later. I wonder if it's partly because I subconsciously feel like I don't deserve that great raw food vibe I get when I e

I use some plastic (mostly recycled containers from parm. & hummus that my honey brings home) but mostly mason jars of all sizes, and have just started using the glass jars that the co-op provides for bulk foods.

One of my favorite pastimes as a child and a bonding experience between me and my three year old! I does align the chakras. For lymph, do the dry brushing from the extermities to the heart before a shower.

I like a little organic wine a few times a week to once every other week. I love beer (microbrews), but they make me feel like I ate a loaf of cooked bread so I rarely drink it any more. I was given a bottle of Grey Goose a couple of weeks ago and once in a while I'd entertain a drink with mostly fresh juice and a little Goose (only did it once and only wanted a few sips of my honey's drink, but

I'm not very productive when I do it and it seems to affect me in different ways that I don't like now that I'm older, but my art is incredible when I have done just a little bit. So I generally reserve it for that occasion.

I like to soak them for a day (rinsing every 6-8 hours), peel them and throw them in raw pad thai (a la Gabriel Cousens) or just eat them. They taste different than cooked or unsprouted and don't have that weird "raw peanut" texture. I want to try tossing them in some spice blend next!

I agree with Bryan and am very, VERY jealous of you, Gypsy Ardor! I was born in Sebastopol and wound up in Napa when I was 14. That is where my family of origin still are. I miss it immensely. I now live in Western Mass. where there is much less sun. I love Humboldt County and think that Garberville is a great little town. Down 101 is the little town of Hopland that has a summer sustainability fa

My partner!!! He is a produce god!!! His passion is growing beautiful organic food. He put up a greenhouse in January in Massachusetts and promptly filled it with plants he had growing in our living room. Now we are the only people we know around here giving away produce because we have so much! A raw foodie's dream come true!!! He is also the produce buyer at our local co-op, which has a 100% o

I jumped on the no poo bandwagon this week with my waist length straight hair that tends to get greasy. I washed with a little baking soda and rinsed with a little fresh lemon and my hair is softer and stays clean longer. Love it!

Hey HS Mom! Welcome! I have chronic low back pain too, and attributed it to my age until I went 100% raw for 11 days at the beginning of this year, when it went completely away. Then I came down with a bad case of the flu or detox (I still haven't figured out which), and felt the "need" to eat cooked food. I have been struggling with 100% ever since, but can easily keep it at 75% or so

Check out rawreform.com. Angela Stokes lost something like 160 lbs. on a raw foods diet and talks about the emotional struggles and other things relating to ending obesity with raw foods. If I eat raw sushi rolls with raw nori, lettuce, bean sprouts, a little soy sauce and spice and some avocado, or a raw soup with miso, spirulina, avo, spice and bean sprouts, I feel like I just had a big, cooke

988. Re: Raw Emotions
From my experience with raw foods, I think that the typical SAD diet numbs our nerves to intuition and emotions that we don' think we can face, and eating raw opens that up. The first time I experimented with a high raw diet was in the early 80's. I was 21, newly married with a new business and a new mortgage. I was already having doubts about my marriage, and other issues relating to my childhoo

Way to go River Willow! It must be great to have the hubby on board with you. My partner is supportive, but he loves to cook and is very good at it. When he cooks up some delicious vegan treat, it's hard to resist. This is probably my biggest hurdle to going 100% raw. My family thinks it's pretty weird too, but I'm the one who struggles least with weight issues and eating disorders, so whatever.
