I'm transitioning, as I still eat steamed vegetables fairly regularly and occasionally cooked millet. Could do worse, could do better. It's working for me right now, so I feel okay about it. One observation I have made lately, though, is that I'm more satisfied by simple foods. That's not to say that I don't enjoy more complex meals either, but I just don't need them as much to feel satisfied

-ice cream of 6 frozen bananas with vanilla bean powder Will probably have a banana-raspberry smoothie when I get home, followed by a big salad with tomato-orange-jalapeno dressing... and maybe a dollop of curry-kraut! It's a locally made kraut and is out-of-this-world delicious, tried it for the the first time the other night. Stuffed romaine leaves with chopped apples, scallions, and a

Even with my candida, I tolerate sprouted lentils very well and enjoy them on

Kiwi is adorable, and looks very healthy! I have an umbrella cockatoo myself, Cecilia. She's a gem, but due to circumstance lives with my mother right now. I miss her every day. I have actually been thinking about putting her on a raw diet, as she has beak and feather disease, which is terminal. She will be lucky to live to be five-years-old. She is balding now and underweight, yet surpri

Ya'll go excuse me while I bang my head against the table... (I jest, I jest. Just alot of information.) And I am in the process of diagnosis, btw. Though symptoms seem fairly obvious, as they are almost strictly an issue of chronic genital yeast.

(Boy did this take a turn since I've last checked the boards...) (COUGH) Well, anyway, I thought it would be worth updating my current status. After a flare-up on the high-fat diet I decided to give my modified take on the fruit-based diet a go and I am floored. Ate a lot of pseudograin during the holidays, plain, as it is hard to maintain the ideal while visiting family. Once I got home

Still visiting family, so a bit more cooked than I would prefer, but: -3 bananas, 2 oranges, 1 Fuji apple -2.29lbs freshly cut pineapple -1/2lb baby carrots -2 small crowns steamed broccoli -3c cooked quinoa tossed with fresh spinach and cherry tomatoes Still hit everything but selenium, it seems. I know that Brazil nuts are a good source, but due to my health issues it's recommended t

Good to know. I adore fresh berries and grapefruit, and will be sure to try them with my salads and smoothies. Shame about the cherries -- they are delicious, but I am allergic to all stone fruits.

I'm guessing these "best" fruits would be low to moderate glycemic? Also, am I to take it that other fruits are to be eaten in moderation? I am actually considering a high-raw diet in the long-term -- steamed vegetables, cooked millet, bean soups. Everything simple, no baking or frying. Whole, organic, vegan. This is definitely more sustainable in regards to mental health for me, as

Am currently sharing some bananas with my cockatoo, Cecilia. Of course, she threw them and ran back to her cage, but that's what I get for being away from home the last few weeks.

Thank you for your responses! I absolutely intend to listen to my body -- I have no ideals when it comes to 80/10/10. I know that it's possible to go through detox within the first two weeks, but know that if these feelings are prolonged I certainly won't be afraid to check in with my doctor. I have an RD, MD, and ND I intend to keep in the know and already keep a journal to track my intake a

So I have decided to give the 80/10/10 diet a go in attempt to resolve my candida overgrowth. I should recieve the book in the mail sometime this week. I'm wondering, for those that follow a high-carb/fruitarian diet, is there a specific caloric target (such as on 30BaD) or does it vary by gender/height/etc.? Are there any particular concerns that I should be aware of when it comes to thi

9 bananas, 2 mangos, 3 figs, 2 oranges, 20oz fresh pineapple, 10oz fresh watermelon, 3 cups of cooked millet (admittedly salted - and oversalted, at that), a handful of grape tomatoes, and one bunch steamed asparagus with fresh lemon juice. I'm giving 80/10/10 a go after my last candida flare-up. My first bite of banana was insanely good. Grocery shopping the other day, I think I was scaring

As to glutenous grains, I can't contribute, but I do enjoy sprouted pseudograin. I sprout buckwheat somewhat regularly and especially love to dehydrate them for cereal. I look forward to trying sprouted quinoa sometime soon, as well.

While an ND would be ideal, I'm not sure that I can afford one. I'm living off SSI right now so money is tight, though my family has told me they'll consider lending me money, if necessary (I just don't think they realize how expensive seeing an ND can be).

I was wondering, as most raw foodists are so health-focused, what do people here do for exercise and stress management? I know that rebounding and yoga are trending, but what else do people here benefit from and enjoy? I'm looking into a YMCA membership to give myself a kick-start and (hopefully!) find a form of exercise that I'll truly learn to love. I'm also dabbling with gentle yoga and t

One more question: If I do go the green smoothie route, will supplementing still be necessary? What about continuing anti-fungals (prescription or otherwise)? Right now I'm doing the grapefruit seed extract and pau d'Arco tea and am also on a cycle of nystatin and fluconozole. I'm also trying to eat more cayenne and garlic, though sometimes I find myself turned off by the garlic (which is f

A bit late of a response here and a couple Q's as well (and of course, several thank yous for sharing your experiences and your advice): What is the difference between systemic and digestive enzymes, and where can I obtain them? As to medicinal mushrooms, what would you recommend? Looking back at my original post, I may have caused some confusion by stressing that I don't want to

So between my current dealings with candida and my history of anorexia, I have alot of questions (and alot to think about). I've been dealing with candida since March, have been following a traditional candida diet since May (with vegan modifications). Have had to eat an obscene amount of fat to keep my weight up, as it got so low that my period stopped and my hair started falling out. On

While I've yet to read as much as most of you here and cannot join the argument on nutrition, I will say that it startles me if Dr. Cousens is considered to be "FAT".

Good to know about hair loss as a detox symptom -- I have never heard of that. However, as mine has been accompanied by increased fatigue/dizziness I am still just as concerned. Ela, glad to hear you tolerated the fruits well. May I ask, what were your symptoms and how long did they last? Also, I do use coconut oil topically and agree, it is soothing.

So, just a bit of an update here, I suppose. On the plus, I've got my period back. Took over two months, but along with some apparent weight gain at least those things seem stable. On the negative, my hair is still falling out. I've had to postpone my blood test until the end of this week, and as much as I dread needles I really just want to get it over with. The fatigue has been pretty b

This is one of those things that I've decided not to over think, personally. I feel that as a treat -- as in, something I enjoy occasionally versus scooping it into my smoothie everyday -- I feel comfortable eating cacao. I don't like extremes, and as I try to eat for health the majority of the time, I'm not going to beat myself up when eating just a little bit for pleasure.
