I often get accused of fanaticism. I find that I can't cheat without consequences. It makes me so mad when people pressure me into having something that I know won't make me feel good. I'm not following a raw diet even, but that was much worse. But why do people do that? why can't they just accept that maybe some people can't cheat and still feel healthy?

A dork? Thats a bit harsh. I think I know what you mean. I used to use a food processor on food, and I was really suprised that it still required some chewing and mixing. I thought it would be like eating applesauce, but its not.

Fresh, Here is a short list of conditions for which people seek treatment by TCM. By way of 5 phase theory, yin/yang flow etc...potentially any condition can be treated, by the theory that any disease is caused by paterns of disharmony. Like any medicine, some conditions are more easily treated, and may have better success rates, some more difficult. I purchased a book about TCM, and it

its the or not part that is trying to be remedied. Its like fertilizing a garden. You can do that bbut only the plants can grow.

I hate to admit it, but I really see eating as largely a chore. All my life I was told to eat this or that because it was 'good for me'. I learned to eat things for this reason, based upon whatever was the current idea about nutrition. I always felt rather envious, and sometimes rather upset at people who ate whatever they liked. Its not necessarily a good thing. But how does one integrate jo

Anaken, Thats an interesting commentary. How does one test this idea? How can one tell if one is truely healing, or just treating symptoms? TCM often claims to be treating underlying causes and not just symptoms as in western medicine. But if I understand it correctly, tcm could actually be doing the same thing? With my experimenting in raw foods, I had very frequent urination, especially at nig

Bracken, As you can see there is a rift between TCM and raw foods. There is also a difference in the understanding of the functions of the organs in TCM and western medicine. In the west the spleen produces white blood cells, and some other functions, in TCM the spleen is a digestive organ primarily paired with the stomach. It could entirely be that TCM has a bias against raw foods based ent

La veronique, I just noticed an interesting plant today in my garden. I planted paw paw seeds, and I think one is sprouting. I am so excited. I hope that it grows and flurishes. I also got some new cuttings for an orange berry. A friend of my partner has them in his yard. They are easy to grow, and also make a great ground cover. I hope these survive as well!

Does spirulina or klamath lake algae count as living vegan foods? Those are high in protein, and it doesn't take up a lot of volume to eat them. They aren't completely natural however, as spirulina as far as I know never appears so perfectly pure and dry in nature.

Bryan, Naturally it follows that if you are a fruitarian, no amount of fruit is going to be too much. I am not sure if you saw my other post addressed to you. But to clarify, I think it would be interesting if someone came up with another term or terms for that period of human history called "the dawn of civiliation". With the developement of agriculture etc... I have reasons for

I might also add that I meant excess fruit as meaning as too large of a percent of ones diet. Not too many calories, and excess food in general.

Bryan, Your statement about fruit may qualify to be true. But its very difficult for most people to eat too many calories on a raw food diet. I know that I dropped weight far too fast for me to adjust to, physically and psychologically. I ended up adding some portion of cooked food for a number of reasons. One for the saity factor, as I was literally eating constantly, and constantly hungry. Th

Aquadecoco, I believe the yin/yang descriptions were based upon how people change upon consuming a particular item. Not only that, but the shape, color, texture, origin and life cycle of a given item. (for materia medica from living things). I'd say that people who eat raw might react differently to particular items, in that cooking changes the nature of a particular item. Different methods of p

Jono, Yeah, I get that feeling as well. The problem that I have with a concept of a creator is that it implies that one has to do something, or follow something. At least that seems to be the major theme of every major religion on earth. The most spiritual experiences that I have had didn't have any such expectation. I want to say it was an experience of complete acceptance and love. But telling

jGunn, I often wondered something similiar myself, except in more broad terms other than just animals. For instance, I never would have thought to use cinnabar as medicine, which it is used in TCM. Of course you can't cook this one, as it would greak down into elemental mercury and oxygen. Other things are various mixes of herbs which are very unlikely to happen naturally. Herbs which come f

In india, mango leaves were/are used as painting pigments. The leaves are fed to cows and the urine is collected, and that is used. Apparently, mango leaf urine from a cow produces a bright gold dye. I don't know if its toxic to humans or not.

Jono, What makes people kling to a creator so much? what necessitates 'evolutionary creationism'?

Smilebig, I don't think anyone has ever observed evolution directly. Mostly because we don't live that long. Just as we can't see x-rays, radio waves etc...There are a number of scientific 'observations' which are not done directly, or to which people make conclusions based on indirect evidence. Isn't it sort of like solving a crime to which there aren't any living observers?

Bryan, Thank you for your comments. Its interesting, but I have a few problems with it. First of all the term 'civilization'. Most people equate agriculture and civilization and grain eating as a step forward, and something positive, and somehow less violent. When in fact that is the start of our current global environmental problems. Comparing primate nutritional needs potentially opens one

Jgunn, Thats a bit of a problem. I'm always a bit unsettled when I see a description of an endangered animal in an herb book, or formula. The book I have always gives alternatives to endangered or rare species. I must admit that unfortunately, some of these things probably actually work, but people are so quick to dismiss all of TCM as superstition for this reason. A better stratagy is probably

Fresh, I wouldn't discount that driving, t.v. computers etc... could change digestion. Its a faster paced life with those things, also our minds are more 'wired' than they ever have been. Clothing is much older, but that also could change digestion in some way, I don't know. We know it has thermal effects, which in turn changes everything. Aquadeco, Could you be a bit more specific about th

Its likely that TCM has as many assumptions as western medicine that aren't tested objectively. Its a strength and a weakness of a sort to have such a long tradition. ONe is that it is tested by time, the weakness is that other perspectives might be set aside because this is how its always been done...

Aquadeco, I have heard that the tounge should be pink and have a light coating that is clear or very light white. I think it would be a misrepresentation to say that the chinese do not respect other species. However, traditional views of life are now mixed with western ideas, which often clash considerably. There is room for improvement, wouldn't it be ideal to take the best of both views if pos

Aquadeco, Observations from raw foodists and TCM may be from adifferent perspective that gives a different explanation. I have very limited knowledge of TCM. The tounge coating is for diagnosis purposes, so its ideal to not brush for a few hours before diagnosis and treatment, beyond that you can brush or clean it off. I think that no coating is supposed to indicate an excessively dry situat

I really tend to think about food, nutrition and herbs way, way too much. It actually has driven some people away from me, just because people don't want to hear about it that much. I think at first people find it interesting, but after about 20 minutes...its too much. But I have a first. ErikUSA, I planted some avocado pits in my yard. They sprouted, and then the deer ate them. After that I haven't seen them in my yard! Did it taste so bad that they haven't come back, did it kill them or make them sick? Why isn't avocado pit eating a general practice?

Bryan, Could you comment further about the unhealthy bacterias present in foods from other countries, such as India? I don't quite understand. Raw food is unhealthy to eat in India because its too contaminated from certain agricultural practices. At the same time I have heard people on this board and other raw food boards state that raw vegan foods in the U.S. Lack b12 because its TOO SANITA
