Essiser, I visited a Krishna temple in Berkley, CA. They seemed way into vegetarian food, as they had a free buffet for visitors. It seemed like everything was boiled or baked so as to make everything lifeless and tasteless. They also had a large number of very sugary sweet pastry and cookie like things. The temple manager said they were made at 4am, as that was good luck or something to bake a

Shep252, Thats great, I would be interested in reading about european potatoes. Yeah, I found that raw potatoes are awful tasting to me, and I suppose harder to digest given that it made me feel sick. If eating some steamed potatoes keep you warm, happy and healthy, I support you. By the way, you have a cute sort of magical look about you.

Arugula, Unfortunately, I had some bits of anemic chicken in a salad this evening. I think the salad would have tasted better without them. I will have to try green salads only when I go out, see if that makes any difference. The production of animal products could be greatly improved thats for sure. Maybe its better if one doesn't eat them. I do find the people who eat alot of meat usually don'

How long does it take for them to die off? I know thats a difficult question, given that you know little about me, and you certainly don't have any samples from me to examine! Thats something I never entertained.

Bryan, What do you think about the Asian ideals of eating quickly cooked food in a wok? I took a class in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the instructor was quite clear that raw foodism was a fad and ultimately unhealthy in the long term. There is also the ideal of getting the 5 flavors, sweet, sour, salty, bitter and pungent. I can see that a raw food diet would be easy to get sweet, sour, bit

Arugula, I was raised on cooked foods, like most people. However, I was not an easy child. I absolutely refused to eat ANYTHING with vinegar, not pickled food, not mayo, not salad dressing, even avoiding catsup and mustard. Also no spices. You would think this would be dream for a parent, as it would make food prep A LOT easier. But it did lead to some conflicts, because my mother had to soak

Rawrr, I tend to think of each particular type of food as having is own particular benefits unique to itself. Its difficult to say that avocados are superior. They do however provide vitamin c, and I can't say that I know of any nut or seed which is known for having vitamin c. I suppose that some sprouted seeds might have some vitamin c. Nuts however may have to go too long before they produce m

Bryan, Soaking nuts and seeds have been advocated on a number of raw foodist webpages, to help rehydrate the nut and make them easier to digest. Soaking may also reduce tannins, but you may loose a little of the minerals. But you are right, its probably not as good as a fresher nut. Hopefully we can make the best with what is available. Some have suggested purchasing whole raw nuts still in t

Actually, I don't think the amount of avocado in guac is defined. I took a spainish class many years ago. I remember the instructor talking about regional differences in mexican foods. Also about economic differences in the way food is prepared. She said that guac is always a mixture of avocados and tomatoes, and spices and perhaps a few other minor ingredients. Due to regional, economic and seas

Shep252, Normal or not, I would rather feel a bit warmer. And actually today I did feel quite a bit warmer. I even went for a bit of a walk with the wind blowing and snow falling down on top of me, and I didn't feel cold. I don't feel so cold in the house either. But, its probably 15 to 20 degrees warmer than it was a few days ago. In fact its expected to start raining early tommarrow morning.

Tropical, Thank you for the input. I'm not all that worried about calcium and protein. I know that most people consume way too much of both of them. I haven't had a glass of milk in several years. The last time I had milk I found it totally revolting. I have had sprinkles of hard dried cheese on salads, but thats about it. I certainly wish my mother could accept this information. She drinks seve

I have KP. Its not quite that bad, and I have had that for years, and I assumed it was acne until a dermatologist diagnosed it. He gave me some cream to put on it, and I used it until he said that another skin problem would get better if I used soap containing an antibiotic. Has anyone improved KP on a raw vegan or other diet, and perhaps some other natural means of management? Well, I have

Dream earth, Wow, I am sorry I didn't notice this post earlier. I asked a similiar question about keeping warm. Does cooked food damage the adrenals? I had no idea. In chinese medicine they say that raw foods are difficult to digest and are cold. I think its interesting that someone suggested ginger. I will have to try that. I have to admit that I have been eating cooked stuff today, not know

Impressive! How young are you? That kiwi cake looks really really good, is that really raw? And there was another photo of things on a plate, some of them looked deep fried. Are you 100% raw and vegan, or do you cheat from time to time? Didn't your original post say you are 100% raw? Where any of those photos from your pre-raw days? Interesting raw foods, if they are all raw!

I came accross an interesting statement by David Wolfe. "...I believe all elements that appear in an animal must somewhere appear in a plant and in fact that’s been scientifically validated. There’s not one vitamin, not one mineral, not one nutrient that exists in an animal that does not exist in a plant somewhere on the planet ..." His statement was in response to a question

esisser, I hope everything works out for your condition. I have heard wonderful things about wheat grass and related grass juices, but they make me feel sick. There are other sources of concentrated nutrients and chlorophyll, so don't feel that wheatgrass is the only source. Hydrilla verticillata is an excellent source of many nutrients, and its claimed to be extremely high in B12. I consum

Shep252, What would be the natural wintertime food in your area? Are potatoes native to the midwest? Somehow it doesn't seem like it. Aren't they from south america? I have heard of some governments creating a wintertime food supplement from sea buckthorn. Its supposed to help people combat the cold. If it really works, shouldn't eating sea buckthorn in the winter help? Its not so available in t

I'm not particularly low fat. However, I do try to limit pressed oils isolated from foods, raw or cooked. For example, I do eat whole soaked sunflowerseed, avocados, ground flax etc...but do not generally consume oil in capsules, or pressed oils such as olive oil. I don't worry about occational additions in this form say in a dressing in a salad a resturant. But, if I had a disease of some sort,

Thank you all for your thoughtful advice. I am drinking a cup of tea as I write this morning. I am going to be removing snow from my drive way soon. I am sure I will be cold at first, but I am sure to warm up as I work. I will have to look up those breathing exercises. thank you

how do you all keep warm in winter? I have been transitioning far too long to raw, and the cold winter weather is another excuse for me to eat something cooked. I feel so cold, even indoors. Today, I had a bowl of oatmeal to feel warm. I especially liked holding the bowl to warm up my hands. Are there any raw foods which help promote a feeling of warmth? Any special visualizations or exercises
