Congratulations on finding your new raw groove! A before and after raw analogy for me would be like a half asleep fish livng in a dingy dirty aquarium vs a happy fish in a clean sunny aquarium full of beatiful green plants sunshine and sparling rocks. But the aquarium feels small. For menus have a look at Dr Grahams 80/10/10 diet especially since you are so active.

Looking back a couple of years I had a lot of SAD sicknesses, aches pains etc. But I remember being told a few years ago by an asthma specialist at a top hospital that I had asthma and that I had to use inhalers (finger wagging at me) and have them with me always or I like 10 other Canadians a week I could end up dead if I got a cold for instance. I did not buy this for me though at the time I t

Green smoothie calmmmm.... If I need to get back on track I have two a day and then alls well again. I couldn't do raw without them where I live (Canada) I don't think. With the lack of sunshine here - I finally ran low on Vit D a couple of weeks ago - at least I started to feel blue/depressed, green smoothie took that away. Many call it liquid sunshine.

Waves tous les Canadiennes! There's one called Upaya Naturals out of Toronto. A bit closer to PQ. Cynthia, Wouldn't raw food be a hard sell to the French, they take their food pretty seriously to say the least. How could a Frenchman give up cheese and crusty bread? It would be like a rejection of their culture lol.

Peisi, I believe that if you started to practice meditatation a minimum 1/2 hr a day you would be able to live through this challenge with more clarity and less worry/fear. You already have the heightened awareness gained from hard work/study and eating raw food but meditation will help you to get a handle on it/experience that fear/worry and move through it and then past it. Then you will sle

Angie, A dentist I had a long time ago told me that unless it was causing trouble you should try to keep your wisdom teeth because they can come in useful when we're old and need an extra tooth for a bridge or something. But wisdom teeth can be a real pain - I know I've been there. Accupuncture and cupping can help with pain from an old injury. Here's some info about calcium if you're i

David, Oranges lying in the road, a wonderful scene for this Canadian to imagine right now thanks for that! Coco - The potlucks last summer were on Nassau in the party room of the Kennsington Market Lofts. Phantom - You are not alone! There's a raw potluck every month now - go here to get info, (I am Gunda btw).

Coco, I have never been to Sprouts though I will be going soon for a potluck and now just to try the 'bread'. Was going to the potlucks in Kensington Market last summer. Leamington sounds lovely btw. Yes, Point Pelee is on the same latitude as northern California, a very warming thought. Good for you for getting out of the gritty city.

Wow! A peak fruit experience. The cucumbers I got from the garden last summer for days on end were pretty special too probably because they were fresh picked. They had that certain sweet quality that you rarely get in store bought. Phantom, coco Maybe we'll see you at Sprouts for a potluck one of these days? Do you attend? I'm in TO but lived in Oakville for 19 years.

I've learned the hard way too that pineapple has to be ripe. My mouth inside and out have been red and inflamed from eating unripe pineapple. Maui Greg, don't tempt me!!! I just ran out of Vit D and would give my right arm to eat pineapple in the bright Maui sun with you. Sigh.

If it's not in the joints it's probably not arthritis but you didn't say. You could try a chiropractic correction. I find exercise the best medicine. I sleep better and therefore heal better when I exercise - especially running outdoors. May also be incorrect posture which can affect nerves in your hands?

I have adult ADD and used to make a lot of serious errors in my job and it took a terrible toll on my self esteem over the years. Since going raw about a year and a half ago things have improved immeasurably. A raw food diet DEFINITELY improves mental clarity especially if you meditate as well. Over the holidays I ate a lot of cooked and heavy stuff and the mental fog that had felt 'normal'to

I found it very hard sometimes in the beginning. I've been transitioning for a year and a half now. Eating lots of nuts/fat with fruit was awful for me. I recall how awful I felt after making my first raw gourmet (chocolate strawberry) cake. You should get used to "hunger" or the absense of that really full feeling, but it's not the same as before because you are more nourished. If

I think there is a big disconnect in a meat eaters heart between the beautiful living breathing animal and the neatly packaged meat products they find in the grocery store. A deep denial of the reality of the animals suffering when slaughtered. I know I was there for years. I think some meat eaters may briefly feel some compassion for the animals they eat when they picture that wobbly legged

Lejla, Your sense is right on I think. Eating raw is the safest way to correct imbalances. I am always tempted to try something new and different and natural to make my healing go faster - and if it doesn't sound to hard on your body go for it if you are absolutely sure it is not harmful. Most people here would tell you the best thing is to stick to a healthy raw food diet and then one thing

I was not 100% raw every single day but pretty high eating fruit all day and the green smoothies. I occasionally succumbed to a baguette when I saw one in the kitchen, or cooked meals, including fish, by a well meaning friend. I can't say where excactly but I've read many times that aches and pains can be part of your detox symptoms and that pain in the shoulders means the liver is cleansing.

I got similar symptoms after being high raw high fruit after a few months. The pain was chronic for 3 months and I couldn't lift my arm higher than chest height, it was bad - but I never considered going back to cooked food. Eventually it got better, several months actually of physio, massage and accupuncture and an osteopath. When it finally started to heal it went pretty fast. I don't think

The world would be a much better place without it IMO, it causes so much suffering in so many lives, we so take it for granted - and for what really? Just weigh the pros and cons, there's no contest.

I used to drink 3 - 4 cups a day for many years. It's hard to tell how bad it is until you get off it for a while and then feel the difference. I still drink an occasional coffee but it feels like my teeth are rattling and my mind goes too fast afterwards. I find if I eat poorly i.e. heavy or cooked foods at night I crave coffee in the morning. And when I have coffee at work I immediately wan

LikeItOrNot, How much salt are you eating? That can make you hold more water than you'd think. I started using more salt all around before the holidays and have put on several pounds and while I've been eating steamed broccolli etc some nights since it got cold I still think it's the salt - Namu Shoyu, herbed celtic sea salt, (wish I hadn't bought that). I've been mono eating oranges for th
