Loose leaf is higher than romaine in minerals, as per a chart I looked at, but romaine beats loose leaf in most vitamins & amino acids. Eat a variety for balance. I consume large amounts of both.

Here's a link although homebrewery.com is cheaper for a gallon jug. Bear in mind you'll pay as much if not more in shipping. Try to find a local supplier.

debbietook, A now deceased friend of mine was very friendly with Fred & I had a long phone conversation with Fred in Aug '03 during which I tried to pick his brain relative to his negative stance on fruit; however I was turned off by his monologuing & I really didn't care to speak to him again. As far as what the "experts" claim to consume themselves, without being a fly on

Not sure how he defines "small" except as a small part of one's dietary. When he spoke of the large number of cases of cancer in the raw community, I thought his blanket blame on fruit was unprofessional, i.e., he did not acknowledge the individual's history & lifestyle as possible contributing factors. Having said that, I'm sure he has some positive contributions to make to the f

Fred Bisci, who works closely with Paul Nison, advocates lots of supplementation which he himself sells. He is anti fruit (except in small quantities) & told me he's witnessed quite a few high fruit, raw vegans succumb to cancer & maintains the culprit was fruit.

From "New Choices in Natural Healing": Salt can relieve the swelling that comes with a sprain, says Vasant Lad, B.A.M.S., M.A.Sc., director of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He suggests making a paste of one part salt and two parts turmeric, mixed with enough water to get the right consistency. Apply this paste to the injured area once a day, he says, lettin

Are you limited to Manhattan? If not, consider joining the Park Slope Food Co-op in Brooklyn. You'll find great prices, quality and selection of organic produce. Otherwise, there are lots of decent Manhattan stores although you'll pay more. The local Yellow Pages lists them.

Anyone have any experience with this? A friend of mine sustained an injury to his finger. The finger is very painful, swollen & inflamed & getting worse. He's not even sure he's removed all the spines from the finger. (He's raw vegan.)

A friend of mine believes the consumption of garlic offers only benefits & I've tried to discourage him from eating it. He'd like me to direct him to a source that discusses the deleterious effects of eating garlic. Anyone know of any?

Citric acid can erode tooth enamel. Rinse your mouth well with water immediately after consuming citrus.

Phantom, Cut the avocado in half in a way that exposes the least amount of the flesh's surface, then scoop out the flesh from the half you'll be eating leaving the skin intact. Use that skin to cap the remaining half (I always save the section with the pit for last) & wrap tightly with plastic wrap to hold the two halves together. I eat 1/4 avo/day & it keeps. Occasionally a bit of the

WY, As you know, for years I've been breaking my overnight fast with either citrus or melon... never less than twelve hours since I've last eaten. And while I very seldom juice, for the past couple weeks I've been drinking carrot/celery juice nearly every morning before eating my fruit as I've felt a need to increase my fluid intake although I don't know if or for how much longer I'll continue

JJ, Karen's response was well said. Your post was unnecessarily cruel. I don't think anyone would want to deny you freedom of expression but you might have shown more sensitivity. There are ways to express thoughts & feelings without being hurtful or mean spirited. I believe many others in the raw community will share these sentiments & take offense at your post. rawne

Minou33, When I used to eat durian, I always bought it in Brooklyn's Chinatown at a market called Lien Hung (5705 8th Ave). The subway stop is only a few blocks away ("N" train, 8th Ave stop). The market was recommended to me by Paul Nison as having the best frozen durian in town. They don't carry fresh durian.

Mature, quiet, raw vegan female seeks house share. Willing to pay rent or barter services. I prefer the east coast but I'm open to all possibilities. Availability of good selection of organic produce is critical!

Yogamama, Perhaps then you peeled the skin? The skin on the green ones can be bitter. I'd always just bite into them, skin & all. Rawne

Yogamama, The fruit in the photo is a white sapote, one of my favorite fruits; however, if the skin is green as is shown in the picture, they're awful! You have to know how to select them. When the skin is yellow, they can be heavenly! In any case, the flavor won't jump out at you. They're appreciated more for their creamy texture although if you're fortunate enough to get them fresh picke
