Do you think it is better to buy unshelled nuts and shell them oneself or to get pre-shelled nuts and soak them before eating?

kwan...that's exactly my story! i just started trying this less than a week ago, so i don't have much to say about it yet. for the 5 days i did it, it was easier than i thought. i think the time can be flexible depending when you get up/go to sleep. i get up at 6, eat, and then make this massive salad (the equivalent of about 6 bowls at least!) for lunch which i eat over an hour or two while

I was also worried about the whole not water thing. But then I looked up how much water we are "supposed" to have... keeping in mind that I just use these things as guidelines. Most people recommend taking in 2 liters of water and say that normally you can only get about 20% of that through food. I get (according to fitday) over that everyday in just my food alone though. I stopped

cy, that's mainly my diet! except i get hungry (or something) when i come home from work. maybe it just feels weird that i don't eat dinner, i don't know. but on certain days i can use 2500 calories. it seems weird to get only 1/2 that. as a side note, i put nutritional yeast on my salads... it's the only non-raw thing i eat, but it's the only natural vegan source of b12. i don't

Does Quantum Eating also involve calorie restriction? If so, what is a recommended calorie intake? I imagine it varies, but is it a strict number or a percentage of the calories you "burn"?

hey, no problem! i would love to see what other people eat too. the laver is just nori sushi sheets. i tear them up and put them in a salad. even before i went raw i was one of those weird people that would eat nori as plain sheets. gets in your teeth, but really tasty!

Here's what i ate plus how many calories of each item. (It was too hard to copy the amount from the program i use, but you could figure it out using something like fitday.com, which is what i use) i basically had a spinach and banana smoothie for breakfast and then a huge salad which i ate throughout my workday. Hey Horsea, It's interesting that you think you are magnesium deficient because that is one mineral I never have to worry about getting enough of! I've eaten 1300 calories today (at least so far) and I already have 283% of the US RDA of magnesium... apparently 900mg. anne

Reading "Living with Meat eaters" by Carol Adams really helped me a lot with these things. She just talks about a vegan diet, but the idea is completely relevant to raw food as well (as well as pretty much every other confrontational issue). There's a whole section on work place relations. I definitely recommend it.

To all of you long termers out there.... I was sick a week ago and in the process of trying to diagnose what I had, nothing that first came to mind seemed to fit (overstressed, mild food poisoning, mild flu?) because I would have some symptoms and not others. And then I realized that if I was at the beginning of going raw I would think it was detox.... and it did mimic what I felt at that time.

I'm curious.... what spices are you referring to? I don't eat many spices but I eat a lot of herbs... basil, oregano, rosemary, mint, sorrel, etc. Mostly greens.

I was vegan before I went raw. I thought that might make transition easier, and maybe it did, but looking back I just think it meant I detoxed a lot quicker, but it seemed more intense. Who knows, we are all different anyway. For me, cutting out wheat was the best thing about going raw. I ate so much of it... bread, pasta, etc. that now I am sure I had a wheat addiction. (Even when I think a

I am a fan of Victoria Boutenko's books (12 steps to raw, green for life). I think she is good for supplying the logical reasons for being raw and why it can be difficult, which has helped me keeping being raw when i found transitioning difficult.

I just was able to watch the 20/20 segment and almost regretted it because it made me so mad! Stossel was so mean, I can't believe he attacked Viktor's looks - how middle school! But then I watched the wrestling interview and I wasn't mad anymore, but laughed heartily. Maybe Stossel will think I have some unhealthy obsession finding humor in another's humiliation, but that really did make thin

Hey everyone, I've been raw for about two years now. I suppose I have a mixed raw diet. For breakfast I eat either all fruit or a mix of fruit and greens for lunch a salad without dressing, but occasionally with some avocado. In the evening, I usually just eat a handful of nuts (or sometimes a couple of handfuls and maybe more fruit - although not together). I have tried to do 80/10/10 die

I have been trying to stop eating after 6pm, mainly because I notice that when I eat in the day I eat because I am hungry, but at night it is because I am bored or other emotional reasons. And that's when I eat fat... which I am not against completely, but of course that sits in my stomach when I am sleeping. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions about how to wean oneself off of night eati

I'd also like to add another piece to the puzzle, which I think was a main factor in my weight loss. Raw food gave me lots of energy... more than I knew what to do with, so I just started moving around a lot more, just so I could manage to sleep at night. Of course that led to more calories burned and less time just sitting around because I was too tired. Also, having a "restrictive&q

Well, I guess I am still a weirdo... haha. But when I went to Victoria Boutenko's lastest talk (and you notice this in Green for Life as well) I realized that some of the diet of a chimpanzee is bark. I would have thought bark was too "woody" to be edible, but that really got me thinking about what use indigestible things could have in the human diet and how would we eat things if we

Here are things that make me want to have a cooked meal: -convenience. -nostalgia. -feeling controlled by my diet. -cravings for wheat/wheat addiction. -wanting to feel grounded/numb. -longing for complex food tastes. With the exception of the maybe last one, where I then try to make raw food dish that has a variety of flavors, none of these reasons are nutritionally-based. When I re

This is probably the only place I can talk about my weird eating habits without getting strange looks. (Okay, so you can't see me anyway, but that's beside the point.) This morning I was having a couple of brazil nuts that I had just shelled. As I was getting the nut out, I was inspired to eat a part of the shell. It was softer than I thought and had this mesquite-like flavor to it. It was

Someone asked messaged me asking me about my experience so far with my vitaprep3. Here's what I said... I did purchase it from culinarysuperstore. The delivery time was adequate... maybe a little on the long side, but okay. I was able to track the package and it arrived a day ahead of schedule, but I can't remember exactly how long. I like it... I have only really made nut butters so far a
