This is quite interesting. My mother was a Type 1 diabetic and died at the age of 51 (she was diagnosed at the age of 12). Ever since I've been interested in a cure. I am currently a nursing student and my anatomy teacher concedes that the disease is now considered autoimmune. Usually it is preceded by a trauma to the body such as a battle with a virus. Interestingly enough, my mother had a

I have the same issue. Whenever I consume mostly fruit, I just have to pee all the time. Not sure what to do about that faucet effect except try and be near a bathroom. It's kind of annoying, but eating a typical SAD meal just leaves me feeling sleepy...so, would rather make the trips to the bathroom than fall asleep.

Hemp - Haven't missed a period yet but once I got about four months in to 98% raw (still stuck with commerical salad dressing addiction), but all the premuenstral symptoms subsided (including the above mentioned sore nipple issue), and they changed from a heavy, 7 day flow to a very, very light, 3 days.

I would go ahead and take the medication for now. Let it do its 'job' so you can get to a place where you are steadier. Your body will sort it all out soon enough and then you can make the decision to stay on it or not. Just don't go on them and then 'suddenly' go off of them. You can make yourself very ill if you do. Yes, I've made that mistake while taking anti-depressants a few years back.

You're probably safest with wine...however, if your body reacts like mine does, you'll find yourself possibly overeating and binging on anything to balance out the buzz. Plus, if you've been raw long enough, likely a hangover the next morning.

Hi Joanna, I live in Spruce Pine, NC, which is about 5 hours from Wilmington on the Northwestern side of the state (near Asheville)...right in the Blue Ridge mountains.

I have a son with Asperger's Syndrome (at the high end of the autistic spectrum) and attempting to change his diet is quite a struggle. Children with autism adhere to routine and anything disrupting it can trigger tantrums. Further, kids with autism are usually amazingly picky eaters..moreso than the average child. They have a thing with textures and sound sometimes, so getting my own son to e

I'd like to join...at about 90% raw for now. I've done this before but now I have a good opportunity to deal with detox issues. I'm unemployed and getting ready to go to school full time in a few weeks. Would like to get a headstart on the discomfort before I have to 'think clearly' again.

Actually, glad you asked this question...I was kind of wondering about the issue of 'sagging/loose skin' as well. I've had three ginormous children and everything snapped back except in the lower abdominal area and no amount of exercise seems to help. I don't wish to resort to a tummy tuck. Has anyone else had success at getting the skin to return to normal after commencing the raw diet? I'm

I was wondering....do you find yourself liking things now that you did not like before? I totally dislike the flavor of raw tomatoes (yes, even fresh out of the garden), celery and avocado's. It's too bad as they LOOK so tasty. I'm hoping that as I continue down the raw path that I'll develop a taste for them.

Well, out of left field here....not a vegan book, but an interesting one that discusses the problems of sugar sensitive people. Potatoes not Prozac. (yes, I can see all of you cringe) Could be low serotonin, low beta-endorphin, low blood sugar. Just seems I fit in to the category of a sugar sensitive. Then again, most of SAD America probably could which is why many that pick up the book will s

Hey Gary, Yeah, I know...all this conflicting information. It's almost as bad, if not worse than in the SAD world. Remember the oatmeal kick? Then it was soy...now soy is bad, etc. I understand about not trusting the intuition of your body. I could have devoured a Godiva chocolate bar this morning for breakfast, but instead I settled for an orange. I think David Mason is likely t

Hmmm...seems to me you just gotta try a few different ways to see what works for you. I think just being RAW is ten times better than what I was eating before. I suppose once I get a bit further down the path, I'll be able to determine which route I should go. Sometimes the raw path is just as confusing as all the other diets. On the S.A.D. front = One day oatmeal is the wonder food, then it

I live in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Despite this vast city and suburban sprawl around it, I've yet to meet any other raw foodies. There is Karyn's Fresh Corner downtown (raw food restaurant), but I rarely get there. Wondered if there were any others trying to do this raw thang here near the Woodfield area. I could use the support. Been on and off this a lot. Hope to make it 'stick'

Does anyone know where I can get black sapote fruit in the Chicago burbs? Not something that seems to be prevalent in the produce sections around here. I've always wanted to try it. Or, is there someplace I can order it from? Thank you!
