Hi Thomas, Regarding your questions.... 1 - The Vita-Mix and a food processor can sometimes be used for similar functions, but the Vita-Mix is more for homogenizing and the food processor is more for grating, chopping, and coarsely blending foods. I use both just about every day. 2 - Vita-Mix is the only high-power blender I have tried, and I don't know of a low-end model. Do you live in

Hi Thomas, Welcome to the forum! I can think of a number of tools to enhance your raw foods kitchen, but how you choose to spend your money will depend somewhat on the type and amount of "uncooking" you plan to do. In my case, I enjoy experimenting with gourmet recipes, which typically require a food processor, dehydrator, and/or a high-speed blender. Food processors are easy t

Hello, Any fellow Tucsonans out there interested in getting together? I've recently gotten back to eating primarily raw foods and have been uncooking up a storm! Would be fun to share meals occasionally with mellow, kindred spirits. Arlene

Hi again, The herbal suggestion wasn't based on a full assessment as my friend lives in another state. He is very experienced in using Western herbs (over 30 years). Anyway, I only took the St. John's Wort for a few days because I became concerned about possible interactions with other supplements/herbs. Arlene

Hi Hyldemoer, Thank you for your input. Sorry about the delay in responding. I hadn't checked this forum for awhile. My herbalist friend is also an acupuncturist and made the recommendation of St. John's Wort based on his experience. I was tested for Celiac Disease a few years ago. Am currently being tested for some other autoimmune conditions. The neuropathy does seem to be slowly getti

I've been invited to a conventional Passover Seder in a couple of weeks and am looking for some raw food recipes that I can prepare--something other than charoseth or salad. Can anybody recommend recipes they have tried? Thanks, Arlene

Hey Maui, I just came across these videos of Victoria Boutenko talking about the benefits of green smoothies. Now I'm really anxious to try your suggestion of combining greens and fruits! Here are the links for the videos: Inspiring! Arlene

Thanks, everyone, for the input so far. Coco, the fitday.com site was really helpful! I guess my limitation in eating greens and sprouts is that they are not a favorite food. I eat salads most days and enjoy broccoli, zucchini, and kale when prepared in interesting ways with sauces, but they are not the first thing I reach for. In the past, I've tried drinking "green drinks" with spi

Hi all, I returned to a mostly raw diet a couple of weeks ago due to a health challenge (peripheral neuropathy precipitated by a herpes viral infection on my finger). Had eaten mostly raw/living foods for 1-1/2 years a while back and eventually stopped due to a severe B-12 deficiency, food cravings, and social pressures. My dilemma now is that although I am enjoying the raw diet, am taking

Thank you, Maui! This site looks very helpful. I had a B-12 deficiency years ago when I was eating close to 100% raw vegan diet and have been taking oral methylcobalamin (B-12) ever since with good results. Probably should get my level rechecked as it's been awhile. Also, probably a good idea to take a supplement with other B vitamins as well. Another remedy I'm planning to try is oral Hype

I recently had a Herpes simplex infection on a finger and have since gradually developed numbness and tingling of both hands and feet. I have been diagnosed with a peripheral sensory neuropathy--no conventional treatment available. Am eating 80-90% raw and just started taking alpha-lipoic acid. Any other suggestions?
