It was many years ago, but I remember when I first heard, "Let's book" used for "Let's go " "Yeah, we were bookin' down the road..." That one took a while for me to get used to.

I'll be at a Vipassanna meditation retreat (this is a yearly event for me), and while I stick to vegan, I can only do mostly raw there... I eat lots of fruit and veggies and salads, but can't function without a little of the cooked food, as not all days have enough raw food to keep me functional. That's okay, though... I refuse to be all-or-nothing anymore.

I remember my mom soaking fresh olives in some sort of brine that included Lye. Here is a link to several types of curing: I love raw olives. I buy them online, and they are already cured. The cost makes me treat them as very precious, so I don't overeat them!

We live on the coast in Washington State... but, we hope to someday move to Ecuador (or Belize. Haven't made the final plan yet), where we'll be able to grow more of our own food. Where we live, we have a tiny yard, but I do grow greens, and herbs, and we have a small plum tree (got 4 plums this year!), blueberry bushes, strawberry plants, and an apricot tree that, I hope, will bear next year.

Look up Raw for Thirty... it's a video series about the program Dr. Gabriel Cousins has for getting diabetics healthy with raw food. There is lots that can and will work for you! But, you SHOULD start out carefully, with some sort of medical supervision.

I have no problem using unisex restrooms... I think they all should be! When in desperate need, I've crossed the corridor and used the men's room before. I've gotten old enough that I realize that some things are just not worth getting stressed about

I am always tired. Do I have CFS? I don't know, I have no interest in having some doctor run tests on me (I've had recent blood tests, I'm good)... I have symptoms of fibromyalgea. The constant pain is a source of fatigue, so that might be the case. When I first went raw, I didn't know about 80-10-10. I was buying books, got a dehydrator, a juicer, dusted off my old Vitamix... and I made stuf

Just to mention: In Vancouver, BC, there is a raw vegan place on Commercial blvd/st (?), just south of Gaslight park. It's a produce market in front, raw food deli in back. In Victoria, BC, we recently discovered a lovely raw restaurant called Cafe Bliss, in Chinatown. I was amazed, in Victoria, at how many places we could wander in and get a fresh juice/wheatgrass juice! We also found

I think David Wolfe says that Hemp seed is good for hair regrowth. Not sure about that... as much as I put hemp into our green smoothies, my DH is still a bit "thin on top"... but, as he says, he has better things to do with his hormones than grow hair.

Best way to get B12 is.. grow your own carrots (organically, of course, in great humus-rich soil). Pull one up, wipe it on your jeans, and eat it. Semen and vaginal fluid has the highest concentration of B12 in the human body - another source, perhaps? (I heard this straight from Dr. Gabriel Cousins) Meat eaters tend to have higher B12 levels since the filth on the meat carries it. (Just go

Welcome! My plans for the future include moving to your part of the world, to be able to take advantage of the abundance of tropical fruit/veggies. Eat fruit - lots of it. Fresh, raw, and as whole as possible (if the skin is edible, eat it, in other words). Fruit gives you energy, and lots of great vitamins. Eat greens - lettuce, kale, spinach - all the dark green leafy veggies. They wi

Perhaps just too much greens in the juice? Next time, try fewer chard stems.

My VM has a pop-out breaker on the back (it's an old one)... if I overwork it, it pops the breaker. After a few seconds, I push it back in, and it's fine. I think the newer ones replaced that with an internal breaker that resets when it cools sufficiently. Try more liquid with your greens.

I got my Vitamix in 1993. I changed the container on it, to the newer see-through (it was the original stainless with the spigot), and I've had to replace the brass widget twice (before I changed containers). Sturdy, powerful, reliable machine. Made ice cream in it many times before I turned vegan! However, I have recently converted to Blentec. Why? the Blentec fits on the counter, under th

Hey all. I recently got a Hurom juicer, and am embarked on a Juice Feast... A couple of observations. The Omega Vert looks like a twin of my juicer. Did they just rebrand the Hurom? Juicing greens. It's supposed to work really well. It generally does. However, I get cloggage of the juicer. Is there some sort of secret technique that isn't covered in the (extremely unhelpful) owner's man

I'm fairly certain that Dr. Bronner's soap doesn't have glycerin. I'm using Uncle Harry's jar toothpaste, which is really cheap, has no glycerin, has all those lovely ingredients... and, did I mention it's cheap? Like $8 for a jar that lasts me about three months.

In 80/10/10, Dr Graham mentions that lettuce is fine - he advocates eating the 'milder greens' rather than the intensely tasting dark ones, if it will get you to eat greens! He mentioned in the workshop I attended that all lettuces have vitamins and minerals, though you have to eat twice as much iceberg to get the same amount, is all. Eat the greens you like. After awhile, maybe try somethi

Always carry fruit with you. I pack an insulated lunch bag with bananas, peaches, grapes - whatever I have. Eat enough at a time! A "meal" should be around 500-600 calories. That's about seven bananas, or nine peaches. If you eat much less, you will get hungry again, faster. You should try for three or four solid meals a day. Start with breakfast. Eat a large, fruit breakfast. It

Okay, we found a source of the 'irregular' Prill beads (on eBay), bought two pounds, and I've been busy this morning sewing up little Prill bags. I now have a bag of Prills hanging in each toliet tank; I have a laundry helper bag in the washer (with a load of whites at the moment); I scrubbed the cat's water fountain thing and put a small Prill bag where the filter would go (it hasn't had a fi
