We live in the country right now so composting takes lots out of the garbage. Plus recycling, though it takes us a while to fill a bin so maybe we put those out every 3 weeks or so. And we make a small bag of garbage every week so the trash sometimes goes out every 2 or 3 weeks. I don't even know what we're throwing out, I'll have to do a garbage audit and see what's going into the trash can. I h

We were in a pretty major city, not too far from Detroit. Veggie food is hard to find anywhere, or if it's on the menu it's completely uninspired. How much iceberg lettuce with shredded carrot and one small piece each of cucumber and pink mealy tomato can you eat? *yawn* The places I've found great veg restos are Toronto, Vancouver, Nelson BC, and surprisingly a couple of places in Windsor. I he

I don't eat in a lot of restaurants here, close enough to home to avoid it I guess. Or I know where to go for OK food. But no, I've never encountered that level of salt here. It was outrageous, I just could not believe it. My mom's dish was super salty too. I had a pasta thing, the salad was lovely but it was small and there really wasn't a lot left on the menu for me. I could have been a pain in

It's been a while. Visiting family over here, it got late, we got hungry. I could have waited but the kids and everyone else, well... The SALT! OMG! I feel like a dried out sea sponge this morning. Seriously, this is how the rest of the world eats? Hello hypertension, sheesh. I have no idea what the food even tasted like under all that sodium. Can't have been very good...

White willow bark. What sort of pain though? Like cloves are good for toothache, some natural anti-inflamatories work for swelling, digestive upset is something else.

This is adorable. I mean, really, the cutest thing ever. I am not much of one for keeping care of houseplants though I do like greenery inside the house but this, this little travelling ball of green beauty, this I like.

It didn't change me more than any other major shift in my life so yes it did have an effect but so does everything else. Child birth, yoga, school, moving to a new place, relationships, etc. Every phase of life brings change. I am becoming the grown up version of my younger self all the time.

I don't know why I didn't use velcro, I think I had the dumb idea that snaps would be easier, ha! I'll just sew in some velcro, I'm headed to the craft store in a bit so will add that item to the list. I don't sell them though, they are so time consuming to make. It would have been totally worth it for me to just buy them. I get a little nutsy about diy sometimes...

Nope but I did dehydrate and powder tomato skins when we were canning last fall and they are very flavourful. You could experiment with other dehydrated veggies, celery is high in sodium, lemon peel is a good substitute for salt as well. Bell peppers, carrots, onion and garlic are all very flavourful. You'd have to mix and match until you got just what you were after. Please post a recipe if you

I made some reusable pads, they are still waiting for snaps though so they've been sitting in the partially completed craft pile for over a year, ha!

It doesn't take a lot of energy from the body to digest a green smoothie. I find they give me more of a jump than any sort of caffeinated beverage, and it's sustained for hours as well. It's light but full of nutrients and is very easily digested so it gives a lot and takes very little. Oatmeal and beans are so heavy, gluey, dense... I imagine that takes quite a bit of energy for the digestive sy

Oh yes, I'd say weaning off meds rather than dropping them all entirely, but also a slower transition to different foods. Radical change is upsetting to the system. Slow and easy can be helpful, not only in terms of the body adjusting better but also in terms of creating life-long habits instead of a temporary fad thing you do for just a while then drop because it was too uncomfortable or unfamil

Oh, there is just NO way I'd ever buy food from an online shop. Not from a craft show either. I am too suspicious about the kitchens those things are prepared in, the hand washing habits of those food preparers, etc etc etc. Paranoid!

Nope. It's well water, lol. No chlorine, no flouride, just stinky stinky sulfur and iron, ha ha! When we move I'll certainly get one though. I've no desire to inhale hot bleach every time I run the warm water, yuck!

That's really not good. I also had a dentist do this to me, replace all the lower fillings when I went in for a root canal. I didn't understand what was taking him so long, 3 or 4 days I had to go in for! He just never really explained it to me, just took advantage. Now a metal filling in the top is about to fall out according to the dentist I see now. Well, I'd MUCH rather have it fall out tha

The sunny raw blog has an amazing selection of recipes, lots of bread substitutes. Its fairly gourmet but can certainly help with transitioning away from those sorts of traditional foods. Good luck!

A neighbour (a former oncology researcher) was just telling me about this yesterday, amazing! Another doctor friend was talking to me last week about research into telomeres as well, a way's been found to prevent degradation at the ends of dna structure. This would equal eternal life. No kidding, it's that fantastic. I personally wouldn't want to live forever though a few more years in good healt

Good answer Jo! Yup, shade, sun hat, light cotton clothes. Best sunburn prevention is a bit of a tan. As for sunscreen, I do use it because we spend a great deal of time outside and hands, feet, necks and faces are always exposed to some degree. There are lots of recipes online for making your own and the ingredients should be readily available everywhere. I use a commercial brand from France o

Those bags, so far as I know, will only biodegrade in the sun. At the dump they are buried under each other so they probably don't get a lot of sun. Paper sounds good though.

I've purchased some amazing things from Etsy, lots of the crafters using the site are incredibly talented and have terrific products. Others though are reselling cheap junk mass manufactured in China etc. That's against Etsy's rules but they don't enforce that and in fact they are very unwilling to hear complaints or reports of abuse of that rule, they have banned people for speaking out about it

I am too lazy to maintain any degree of unhappiness. It really does take a great deal of effort to be angry or dissatisfied with things as they are. I am mostly neutral, occasionally tetchy, more often slightly pleased, very occasionally mad or sad or ecstatic. And I'm French but French-Canadian . Serenity now, eh?

Nothing entombed in plastic will biodegrade, not for hundreds of years. They've taken bags out of the garbage from decades ago and found intact food stuffs that would have rotted on the ground in only a few weeks. That's very sad. Why not flush stuff? Things put into a garbage disposal end up in the same place, don't they? When we live in a town and can't keep a compost I put things into a

I wouldn't either. Raw grains don't taste good to me, not even heavily seasoned. They aren't neccessary for breads and crackers though, veggie pulp and nut/seed meals work fine and taste good without lots of other ingredients.

Oops, was I supposed to send a physical address? I didn't do that, but I didn't get an email confirmation or request for it either... ??? That said, this is the best raw book I've read in a long time.
