Sounds like GERD to me. I have similar issues as your mother, though hers sounds much worse. Mine use to be so severe I couldn't breathe after meals from all that stomach gas rising up, but now it's just extremely annoying. Some suggest taking Betain HCL for low stomach acid, but I've taken that on and off for years without any noticeable benefit. I've improved through the years by eating who

If the raw foods diet doesn't heal digestive issues, is fasting the only option? I've been "fasting" on veggie juices and green smoothies for over a month except for an occasional salad, and have seen no improvement. Some days I've actually felt worse. I did a 3 day juice fast many years ago which helped me get rid of chronic fatigue, but I've never fully healed. I should have faste

Well, I don't have time to get into a long debate on climate change, especially with someone who gets all of their "facts" from a biased source, so I'll just point out a few things and leave you to believe what you want. This is the problem with conservatives today. They only get the news they want to hear. Thus I'm sure you missed the news that the email controversy was studied in

Seriously, you don't believe global warming is man-made? With a little ecology 101 you'd know that everything on the planet operates under a system of balance. Everything, from your own body to every ecosystem. This includes the climate. You can't dump billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere year after year after year, while eliminating the trees needed to absorb those gases

There's a hopeful video about climate change you might enjoy, despite it being about cattle (not sure if a vegan site will appreciate that aspect), but it's rather hopeful about a holistic approach to reversing desertification, which would suck co2 out of the atmosphere. You can see the video here:

That's interesting Panchito. So you're saying that, even if I'm relatively low fat currently (compared to the past anyway), there is still too much fat in my cells from my previous high fat diet preventing proper absorption of sugar and causing blood sugar crashes? Chromium and cinnamon would help my cells to shed some fat? Also, what's a good reference source for this that I could peruse?

Anyone have any success reversing this? I know how to manage blood sugar issues, but I wonder about reversing it permanently. I hadn't had a problem with it for quite awhile but just when I thought I could get away with a lot of fruit before leaving the house, the next thing I know I'm feeling as if I might faint. Thankfully I was in the neighborhood of a raw foods restaurant so I could quickl

What is "the whole Adya thing?" I'm not up on these issues/wars between raw fooders. I do find durian rider to be too dogmatic and sort of hostile at times, so I end up doubting some of what he says. What's the etc., forum? These conflicts between the various camps seem to be unbelievably immature and silly.

I understand Banana Who, I just wonder sometimes about the difference between a cleansing detox reaction and a reaction to some specific food, especially when I ate such a small amount of that snack. I've actually been surprised that I haven't had any significant detox reactions since getting back into raw. I have some annoying health issues that have yet to subside, so I keep expecting some ki

I've been back on raw for a few weeks now and still have a lot of cleaning up to do, but I've been doing pretty well consisting mostly on green juices, green smoothies, and salads, probably at least 95 percent raw (sometimes when having a salad at the whole foods buffet I'll sprinkle on some cooked beans). During the first week I had some mild fatigue, but nothing too bad. Yesterday I had a

I don't know why, but I've always had a tough time listening to this guy, but I agree with him here. All the infighting can turn you off, especially for some that are new to it or, like me, struggling to stay with it and trying to decide what works best. Some won't abide, I bet, as they are too dogmatic with their beliefs that their way is the only way.

I watched that movie a few years ago. I'm over 50 but don't have any known heart issues, nor do I take any meds. I don't believe it was anxiety. I'm familiar with anxiety and this was nothing like that. I suspect it was more a result of hypoglycemia. I had been eating a lot of fruit, including raw desserts with honey, and probably wasn't as prepared as I should have been. Because of that ex

I took a 30 day raw foods detox class about 10 years ago which ended with a 3 day veggie juice fast. That's the longest fast I've done, and frankly, I hated every minute of it. But the results were excellent. After trying to stay on a raw foods diet for 3 years, I eventually got away from it. I used to have chronic fatigue, and the detox took care of that, though it will come back for a day i

Thanks, I had read that thread. It was why I asked the question. Reading that thread made me realize that if I'm going to do a juice fast I need to know what I'm doing. Thus I'm looking for a book or some guidance of some kind rather than just giving it a go on my own.

I might try to do an extended juice fast at some point, once the weather in my area warms up a bit, and I'd like to prepare for the possibility. Can anyone recommend a book or video on how to do this in a safe manner from someone who really knows what they are talking about? Thanks

Thanks. Your non plan sounds like a good approach for me, arawnut. A plan of no plan... No doubt, Utopian, my attitude is something I have to work on more than anything. I think I can...not plan...

Thanks all, very nicely expressed thoughts. Some days, like today, it's all good and seems easy. I'm a baked goods addict, however, and know a tray of devilish scones are lurking around every corner waiting to attack. I do feel as if I've hit that low point where I can say enough is enough. Fruit should always win the day if I need something sweet. Several years ago I did a raw foods detox,

There's no doubt I've been in an agonizing phase lately. Yesteday was a frustrating day. Today I seem to have let it go. But I've been here before and need to break this cycle. I am amazed at how some can stick to long juice fasts to overcome issues. I never last long at such attempts. I wish I could. It would be tempting to go 100% raw for a few weeks (which is relatively easy for me) and

I think I definitely have some emotional insulation to shed. Yesterday I got so frustrated that after a day of eating well, I ate free samples of garbage at Whole Foods, and once my body gets a taste of those refined grains and sugar, even a morsel, it just wants more. I gave in and then I feel as if I am back to square one. I think my rant last night might have helped. I needed to let that

I don't know who to believe anymore. How did you decide to go raw and stick with it and, maybe most importantly, stop worrying about whether the diet is truly healthy over the long haul? There are so many different opinions on how one should eat, and of course raw veganism is always being attacked. It all makes my head spin. I've been raw before but failed to stick with it. I've also done
