Way before I started eating raw I noticed that naturally I was on a 48 hour eating cycle. I would eat a ton one day and very little the next switching off. I don't know if it is healthy or not, but I seemed to do it naturally without even thinking about it.

I had been thinking of doing a fast and then I read that it is common to do so at this time of year.

Fruit, fruit, fruit. Eat as much as you can. I probably eat twice as much fruit as you do and I am a less active female. I think you'll find it difficult to sustain this diet without getting more calories. And I personally have found it better to get those calories from fruit. Also you might find it useful to use, cronometer, fitday or some other calorie/nutrient counter.

Great article. Does anyone know what he is referring to when he talks about "fungus"? Is that candida? Why not get a blood analysis done?

Thanks. I think avocado is a great suggestion and does satisfy that urge sometimes. Sometimes I am also satisfied with just eating more fruit. But sometimes, neither fruit nor fat really seems to work and I seem to want carbohydrates that take a little longer to digest, or perhaps like ezrider says, have less water content. At that point, I don't know what to do and that's when I turn to star

I am trying to follow a low-fat diet. Mostly I eat fruit, green smoothies and salads, with little overt fat. But occasionally (and this probably has more to do with my emotional state than anything else... and hey I'm working on that), I desire more complex carbs. Sometimes this means I go for the worst... some cookie or other bready substance (oh how i am addicted to wheat!). but as a transi

You don't have to be raw or vegan to participate, but just be respectful of that choice. Questions about other diets are more than welcome, proselytizing is not. Having sad that, I think it's great you've come her

I've been vegetarian most of my life so I'm somewhat biased, but my mother's tried every fad diet. She stuck with Atkins for awhile, because she did lose weight originally, but then she put a ton back on, weighing more than she ever did. Now, she is slowly, yet steadily losing weight on a mostly raw diet. I lost extra weight going raw as well, even though this wasn't a goal of mine.

I like a watermelon and spinach smoothie. The lighter greens like lettuce would work as well.

Here in berkeley, I eat tons of organic produce for free out of dumpsters. I don't know if that is practical in other areas.

Thanks Andrew. I really liked your video. I've made similar realizations too, but that video was just kind of poetic.

I have been raw two years now. I think that "slip-ups" are just a part of the process. Everytime I slip I come back with a better diet (for me) than before. I hope and think that experimenting is just part of the process.

The thing about stomach stretching that I have difficulty with is that I feel like I am over-eating. When I ate cooked food (which basically would make me feel a bit ill because it was so hard to digest) I would stop eating after eating a certain volume. But with raw food I know that I have to get more calories so I ignore the "full" signal and I kind of feel like there isn't another

whoa. i didn't think i was going to say anything else on this topic and obviously this has nothing to do with raw food anymore, but, Kombaiyashii, your statements about 'terrorists' are too erroneous in my opinion to let be and without being challenged. Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground did not destroy the student movement. They were a very small group of people that emerged out of a

I was vegan for 13 years (veg for 18) before I went raw. I saw it as a natural progression. Most raw food "experts" (i hate that word though) were either vegan first or identify with the compassion aspect of their diet. (Cousens, although he eats honey, Boutenko, Graham to name a few). I wish there were more bridges between the raw community and the animal rights community for sure,

I know this might sound kind of silly, but one thing that really helped me with eating less at night was going to bed early. I found that I was just eating to keep myself awake. Also, I am pretty happy in the morning, but sadder in the evening = emotional eating!

If the only complaint about using greens is their flimsiness then you might find that collards give you the structure you are looking for. I use them myself!

The trouble I have with following 80 10 10 is that you have to eat so much. Doug Graham says that we have to get used to our stomachs expanding, but mine seems to be a permanently extended state. Does anyone else get like this?

Yup. Two years no colds. The winter before I went raw I had five! It's so crazy that people think that having colds is normal.

I add fruit to my salads as the dressing. I also put on nutritional yeast (which isn't raw, but is still good and very tasty!).

Ways going raw could help: -give you more energy to deal with emotional stuff -you wouldn't feel guilty about what you are eating (i'm not saying you should, but most people do think along these lines) -you would have a goal and a sense of accomplishment, which help with depression -most cooked/high fat foods are depressing in the literal sense... they slow your body down and make many people

I know nothing about this, but I will say that raw diets are supposed to help people with autism and for some reason there is a high correlation between people with severe autism and epilepsy (my brother has both). so that's interesting...

I know that some of you are listening to the rawkathon, but I just wanted to provide this link to Dr. Rick Dina's interview. I had never heard of him before, but I think he had a lot of good things to say. Very scientific and informative. (only up until tomorrow evening.. enjoy!) ps has anyone been to any of his classes?

I had trouble following 811 exactly because i don't want to be taking in 2000 calories a day. I still eat a very low fat diet, eating no more than 1/4 cup of what Graham calls overt fat - nuts, seeds, avocado. But because my caloric intake is lower it is more like 15% fat. I try to eat 1+lb greens a day, but I had to work up to that. Fruit can be expensive depending where you live and what s
