I saw fresh durians today at Berkeley Bowl. But they had some furry stuff around their stems and there were only two left, so i didnt go for it. How can you tell if they are fresh? And how on earth do you carry them??? I couldnt find a way to pick this thing up.

I started my raw journey with the intent to find more connection to the foods I eat. This has definitely worked out amazingly well so far! I started just by adding fruit and greens. By day two I wasnt interested in dairy, meat or eggs anymore. I have been wheat free and sugar free for 3 yeaers prior to that, so that part was easy.As a matter of fact I was a low carber and had eaten NO fruit at a

Enjoying the persimmons thread. And been eating plenty myself I saw a p-tree today - they are the most amazing look, no leaves, just fruit. How many persimmons a day are you eating on a monofast like this?

musician, sound designer and music teacher. I lived low-carb on the road for years (that's hard!). Wish I had known about fruits what I know now - they seem easy enough to take along. As for the photo, nope, no negative reaction. Good luck to you

Hi Dafodil, so sorry you felt so crummy! I feel a little odd giving advice, as I am so very much in a similar boat, and I am new to raw foods. But here is one thing that I have learned: whenever I act out of desperation in the food arena (or elsewhere, too!) it usually backfires. Acting out of desperation makes me make radical changes that are focused on immediate (usually short term) results.

'Wanting to look and feel healthier and stronger' is a valid goal imho and a far cry from 'using food to solve insecurities'.

PS: Oh, and for crafted raw foods you could check out Cafe Gratitude. They have three locations in the Bay Area, SF, Berkeley and San Rafael. It was the place that first turned me on to raw, but i now find it too heavy (lots of flax, nuts and the like).

Or try Berkeley Bowl between Shattucka nd Adeline in Berkeley. Cheap organic fruit paradise! I was looking for cherimoya there yesterday, but they didnt have. Still bought a whole table full of fruity and green goodies. I will look for durian next time. Never had one. Anyone ever tried Mangosteen? They have freeze dried ones at Trader Joe's which are just amazing, but now I am looking for the re

Hi, thanks for all your responses. yes, stopthethyroidmadness is a great site. it lead me to Armour and Cytomel. The thread link was very helpful also. Most troublesome to me right now is what I am constantly reading about goiterogene vegetables - everything from cabbage, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, and even citrus fruit should be limited or eliminated. All these are my favorites, i

How about freeze-dried? i found amazing tasting Rambutan and Mangosteen at Trader Joe's (not expensive at all) that taste like chips. I had to watch it though, because they triggered cravings. Not sure if its something about the attitude of eating from a bag or the fact that they are very sweet and dry, but something raised an internal flag, which put an end to it for now. Am a total newbie, thou

Hi all, I have endocrine issues and am interested to find information on thyroid issues and raw. many books on thyroid diets (as well as my Drs) advocate a high protein and low glucose diet, I have also found some accounts on raw being beneficial for the thyroid. I am currently on thyroid medication (Cytomel, which is synthetic T3 as well as Armour, which is natural desiccated thyroid

Lee, Have you experimented with Spirulina, Chlorella, Blue Green Algae? those are very high protein, I believe. (I take compressed powder tablets, I cant stomach the taste of them in smoothies yet, working on developing a taste). kelp, dulse etc might be helpful as well. Insipring to read how you are dealing with stuff. Wishing you the best and continued healing. cocoa

Hi all, so, I am new to this raw way of life (LOVING it so far, yet MUCH to learn!). One thing I found just about everywhere was: get a food processor. And: Get a blender. So - I went and got myself the Kitchenaid 9 cup processor (thanks, in part, also to this board) and it just arrived. Now I'd like to get the Vitamix, but hubby doesnt think that's needed, since I got the foodprocessor now a
