Musical instruments and the simplicity of raw foods

One thing I like about the raw food lifestyle is how simple it can be. Simplicity is something I try to extend to the other areas of my life, as well. In the past few years, I've been interested in trying to learn a musical instrument, but this comes in conflict with my desire for simplicity.

So I was hoping you all could give me some suggestions on simple musical instruments. By "simple" I mean something you can bring anywhere without lots of accessories, that doesn't require electricity, etc.

*I reserve the right to be picky and reject any suggestions (no harmonicas) winking smiley

Try a flute-- maybe a simple wooden one with just holes, but make sure it is tuned right. Recorders are great instruments, too, and even easier to blow.

Hey, TL, all opinions are welcomed. smiling smiley

I thought about the recorder, but stringed instruments like the guitar and ukulele seem more conducive to playing while hanging out with a group of friends. I don't know whether I would do that or not, though. I guess I should think more about what I want to get out of the instrument and how/where/why/what I'd like to play.

You could learn to play the harmonica or bongo drums.

El Natural is the expert on musical instruments -- he makes and sells them.

I struggle over this, too. I want another piano. A big grand. (I sold mine about 10 years ago to pay off the mortgage). But pianos require tuning and climate control.

I guess a wood recorder would be minimal impact. But you can't do as much with it as you can with a piano.

You could play the drums on plastic & metal buckets. I seen some fellows do this in the subway, they had quite some energy going.

arugula

try and get a used piano

some people may be trying to move and want to get rid of theirs because they don't play it any more

yeah, they sometimes need tuning once in a while but they are pretty "sturdy" in comparison to other instruments that need tuning more frequently

as far as the climate control thing... just keep it indoors/dry

i'd say go with the Baldwin : simple gorgeous good sounds

surprisingly, some of those fancy shmancy pianos that cost big bucks

don't even have a lot of resonance ( get yer head out of the O chem books when you hear the word "resonance" cuz i just KNOWWW that was your FAVE subject LOL smiling smiley

cal gunder

get a piano

so what if you have to almost break your back to drag it on their little wheels to wherever you have to go

they are "simple"

just CDEFGABC

do re mi fa so la ti do ( think "Sound of Music"winking smiley

more importantly

pianos are simply gorgeous

can't beat the fact that it is an entire orchestra in and of itself

no need to depend on other instruments when u got the piano

piano is KING

I have an awesome Woodstock xylophone that I bought for my kids a long time ago because no matter how horribly you play it, it still sounds beautiful.

The banjo played Claw Hammer style, preferably a fretless banjo.
