Yeah I have seen that dewey... only the version I saw was called Into the Wild. I found it a curious mix of inspiring and sadening. Re: movie

Date: August 10, 2008 04:03AM Yes. I read the book. I'll probably rent the movie this week (I heard it was good). The story (like many of that gentleman's books) is a tragedy because it was probably avoidable. It's notable, as mentioned above, because the boy had pretty much anything he needed, and yet was unsatisfied by his 'world'....and felt the need to flee....so to speak. Asking ourselves the hard question of how we, as a society, allow such a thing to occur....is a valid line of inquiry...for sure.

Date: August 10, 2008 01:27PM Cool!
There was a tv series back in the late 60's with a similar theme....where a man chucked the normal 9-5 grind as a newspaper reporter, and went cross country on a Harley. It was called Then came Bronson. Really a good one. See if you can find it. Brian Re: movie

Date: August 11, 2008 06:12PM I have not seen it yet, but I read the book a few years back. It is by Jon Krakauer. He follows the route the young man (Christopher McCandless) travels and talks with the people he met along the way. It was incredibly sad, but I really appreciated the beautiful spirit of this person. Re: movie
