Melancholy

Right now I feel peaceful, but sometimes I feel sad and I am not really sure why. It is not for a particular reason. It feels like a heavy weight between my belly and heart. I usually will experience this a couple of times a month and it will carry on for a few days. I usually wish to be alone during these times. My husband sometimes asks whats wrong and I don't know how to respond because it is a feeling. A specific thing did not trigger it. I don't think I am depressed because it passes and other times I am energetic and joyful. I wonder if this is a healthy thing to experience. Is this a sign of an imbalance in your opinion? I am just curious if this is normal.

Listen to "Kinds of Blue" by Miles Davis
it honors melancholia

if i feel that way
i just lie down , wrap a blanket around me
feel the breeze
close my eyes

listen

listen

accept that is how i feel

and let it wash over me like pearl foamed waves
over the shore

ah, that's a favourite song.

ALL BLUES
(Music : Miles Davis / Lyrics : Oscar Brown Junior)

The sea
The sky
And you and I
Sea and sky and you and I
With all blues
All shades
All hues

Some blues
Are sad
But some blues are glad
Dark and sad or bright and glad
We're all blues
All shades
All hues
We're all blues

this is a peppy version but still with different lyrics but even with the original it's hard for me to feel sad when i hear it. i embrace the sadness, all those lovely feelings of ours, they make me feel so AliVe!

Hi Joanne,

I'm sorry you feel depressed sometimes.

Do you by any chance eat gluten-containing grains ever? That and dairy products can cause depression.

I also feel kind of weird sometimes. Like when it starts getting darker -- around 4 or 5, in the last couple weeks, I've been feeling kind of sad-like. I think it has to do with the light. And when it was in the upper 80's and 90's for quite a while, and then it suddenly got cooler for a few days, I felt different, not so great. Also, we can take on someone else's depression, like empathy. I've done that with my family -- feel a thick heavy depression, like soul-deep for a few hours, and then my brother told me he had been depressed at that time.

Also, I think a lot of people have a low level depression all the time. I think there could be a number of reasons -- for me, I wasn't breastfed, abused as a child, vaccinations galore, mouth full of mercury at age 12, and experimenting with drugs when I was younger.

Also, I really think getting sunshine every day is so important. I'm always trying to make sure I go out in the sun for at least 20 minutes a day, but I often forget or put it off and then it's too late. I think that's key.

I think some people are just born happy and others born serious. Once a healer told me that some people just can't ever be 100% happy. Like he said I could only ever be 80% happy at the most.

But thank God for the RFD because for myself I feel happy most of the time, and sometimes I get this sudden feeling of joy or real deep happiness that lasts only a little while, like a surge of happiness. Thanks to the RFD.

Lois

Wow.
I can really relate to this.
Sometimes I get sad and cry for no apparent reason, but 1/2 hr later I am laughing at a tv show.I just let it come and go.I do agree it could be related to a food allergy.
Not to get too personal....but monthly cycles maybe?

La-Vernonique
That is a great song. I used to have a friend that really liked it. Thanks for reminding me of it. I love the song 'Clair de Lune' by Claude Debussy. It is so beautiful and melancholy. It sometimes makes me cry (in a good way) and great when i am feeling blue. I love it on the piano.

I have been beginning to realize that when I allow the feelings of saddness to wash over me at full force, while absorbing myself in inner reflection, the feeling of awareness creates a space that buffers my saddness. That awareness transorms into gratitude and wonder for the present moment.
