Thanks for posting, and oh, man, don't even get me started on how we mistreat rodents smarter than most people I know in order to formulate things like Viagra!

Hi cy,

I care! I like the answer to the question at the end of the short video.

I have two pet rats with two distinctive personalities and I really like them. I am so glad MINE are safe from miserable lab experiments. I can hardly stand to think of it.

How come lab animals cant be given pleasurable experiments like a very healthy diet, nice attention, inspiring exercise...surely, if we must do experiments on animals, we could learn something without torturing them. It cannot be right to torture critters even if it's explained away as being for a good cause.

Thanks for the vid, Kit

Hi Kit,
I believe that money and power is the evil of this planet.
All of this people think and do only bad things, because love, gratitude, grace are free. Also be healthy isn't good for money,so they manipulate, abuse, torture and all in name of the power and to get more money.
So,many creatures suffer with it.Unfortunately.

oh horrible. Of course i knew this stuff but it's good to be reminded. People deliberately don't want to know this type of thing or - heavens above- they might have to change their ways!

I think mice and rats are great intelligent and very misunderstood creatures.

I used to be biased against them although I certainly would never hurt one I changed when my son brought a mouse from school in a tin, at first I'm ashamed to say I let him keep it like that until my partner went and bought a superduper fancy cage with toys, the mouse was so happy and couldn't believe his luck, and was hopping and skipping with joy, it was so obvious. I eventually became very attached to it and it used to play with me like any other pet. One day though some psycho cat managed to get into my house and killed it, it was getting old and nearly 3 at this point. 3 times the age they normally live. I've had loads since but that one Mr Jingles who turned out to be a girl was really special.

I didn't watch the clip as it would upset me if it is horrible

My husband's first major 'ah ha' experience of suffering (other than the fact that he psychically 'saw' Hiroshima being bombed when he was about 3) was an experience when he was about 8 years old when he witnessed extreme cruelty to mice: he was enjoying the company of a mother mouse and her babies, and local neighborhood boyscouts came and made fun of him, put the mother mice and her suckling babies in a burlap bag and threw a firecracker into it. I won't go into the results-- they were pretty awful-- and Jonathan was grief stricken. The boyscouts thought it was too funny; Jonathan was infuriated and bit one of them on the hand, he was so mad. He remembers this incident to this day, and one time when he told me about it he cried. It's pretty weird when people don't care about animals; it shows an amazing insensitivity bordering on psychosis, I think.

Kwan,

The first time I felt blind hatred for a human was when I was six years old and playing out near the back door of our school with my friends one morning. We found a little field mouse who appeared to be lost among the boxes and pallets the cafeteria staff had put out there, and though we were delighted by it, we were trying to redirect the mouse towards the playing fields to freedom with our hands. A stock guy who was taking out the trash from the grocery store across the wall from our playground heard us, hopped over the low stone wall with a cinder block, and tossed it, chortling, on the poor cowering mouse. Most of the kids who had gathered started to scream or cry, and he thought it was funny. I turned at him in a rage, said he was an evil person who was going to hell, and started to kick his shins. A teacher came along and shooed him off. It was an important lesson in humanity for me. I hadn't thought of it in a long time, until I read your story about your husband . . .

Test your rodent knowledge by taking the quizzes in the Fun Stuff section. Or, if you have a site that you think is "rodent savvy", then why not apply for the Rodent Savvy Site Award?

Rings

It was fun.
This site will no longer be updated due to the fact that I no longer have any pet rodents, and don't plan on having any in the near future. However, the site will remain here as a tribute to all of the wonderful little pets that made such a huge impact on my life, especially my rats Nimbus and Panda, who taught me how to love.

Remember, everything will still be here so feel free to browse. Don't be afraid to sign the guestbook or apply for an award, I still check e-mail. =)
