What is your Pet Peeve?
Posted by: Wheatgrass Yogi ()
Date: February 20, 2009 04:32PM

It happened to me again this morning at Publix.
I was on my way into the store when I was startled with a
'beep'. Why do people use a remote to lock and unlock their
cars that causes the horn to sound an annoying 'beep'. Does
anyone else feel this way, or have your own Pet Peeve?....WY

My pet peeve is seeing people using new plastic bags when they buy their shopping instead of bringing a bag or basket with them. It seems like such an easy thing to do.

smiling smiley My car does this automatically, for good reason: the driver doesn't have to be standing right next to the car and hear the doors lock to know it's secured. So this isn't a pet peeve of mine.

Number 1 on my list[that doesn't involve matters of spiritual importance] is an oldie but a goodie:

--people who have protracted conversations loudly on cell phones in public

I have found it both amusing and problem-solving to make direct eye contact with such a person, refer whisperingly to something they're talking about and in a helpful way, and then nonchalantly turn around and walk away, i.e.: sotto voce "You know, you really should take Mylanta for that. It would really help. Good luck at the doctor's office." exit stage right

Works every time.

That fruit plate sounds amazing! Other than the Dynamic Gastroenterology Duo, eating that at the restaurant must've been sooooo sensually pleasing--I'm envious!

My pet peeve is the hundreds and hundreds of people who straddle the crosswalk (or worse yet, run right through without looking), often while talking on their cell phones, at a busy street right near my apartment complex, which houses lots of disabled and blind people. Jonathan has had his cane run over and broken, he once ended up laying on the hood of a car that backed up on him on the crosswalk, and periodically as we start to cross the street, a car or truck will zoom through and Jonathan's cane will scratch the driver's door as they whiz by, glaring at us.

I don't like seeing cigarettes smoked in front of health food stores - especially when other people are sitting at a table there, eating something they just bought in the store.

I DO like seeing young healthy people who are pursuing a healthy lifestyle!

Yeah, cigarettes smoked in front of health food stores with "NO SMOKING" signs in front of them!!! WTF!!!! And junk food. And people who pretend that organic junk food is ok. White food and processed sugar are bad, even if they are organic. And pretentious people!! I don't care how much money you have; we are all the same!!! (No; I'm not broke!)

It's not so much a Pet Peeve as it is a question
of understanding. How can people wash dishes, and not dry them
and put them up afterwards? I know people who just put them
on a rack to drain (juicer and blender too).....never felt right
to me.....WY

WY,

I let me dishes air dry on a rack. Because that's the cheapest, least labor-intensive and, frankly dear WY, most sanitary way to do it. Only when they are thoroughly dry do I put them away. I've never understood the point of dishtowels, unless one needed to put the dishes away in the cupboard immediately for some reason and therefore needed to "speed up" the drying process.

I counted 14 pieces of apparatus that I used
yesterday for juicing Wheatgrass (juicer, strainers, bowls,
cups, long knife, etc). I want them washed, and
dried, and put away. Besides, aren't you concerned with
Water Spots?....WY

WY,

Water spots? Are they deadly? No, I am not concerned about water spots as the water around here doesn't seem to result in that many. It really is more sanitary to let things air dry. But perhaps you need a much larger drying rack--that's a lot of things to have at one time on a typical sized rack. The more stuff, the less air circulating around it and consequently the more water spots it would have. In cooking school, some instructor or other was always yelling at us, "clean as you go, people!" So to this day, I wash dishes upon finishing with them, and that way the rack is never groaning-full.

My husband likes to dry stuff off. I like to just give it a shake and put it on the drying rack.

air drying dishes actually kills many bacteria. those dish drying cloths do the absolute opposite, they Spread bacteria, eww!
i don't mind bodily function talk, i have kids so i'm very, Very used to the ick. hey, little girl has discovered her nostrils, she's been thrilled to find that she's got "snacks" in there. ugh.

smoking frikkin pisses me off No End! no only is it a health epidemic but smokers don't seem to think that butts are garbage and so after the melt the roads and walks are all COVERED in them 'round here. it's a nasty, filthy, disgusting site.

cars bother me. i don't even think of them as a neccessary evil, i just think of them as plain evil. public transportation is the way, if only people weren't so selfish and government so stupid about it.

people with domesticated pets who don't take proper care of them. leaving the dog out in the yard to freeze and bark incessantly (thank-you inconsiderate neighbour) bugs me. and the cat that sprays and @#$%& all over my front and side walks, stairs and doors doesn't thrill me much either. fix that little bastard or keep him IN!!

there. i'm all angsty now. somebody start a thread about our favourite things now please? this one just made me mad.

Yes, why don't you?
I still like to towel-dry my 'dishes'. When a towel gets
damp, I take it out of service. My Washer and Dryer are
very conveniently in my Kitchen....WY

My biggest pet peeve,

when I'm crossing the street with kids and people in their cars don't stop! In the f-ing crosswalk!!! oh it makes me so mad. I don't mind so much when I'm by myself but when I have 1 or 2 kids I cant stand it. Be patient people. It's the law anyway. In California pedestriand have the right of way; and when your in you car, you go so much faster than people walking. Be patient. It drives me insane.

meganbubbs--
Ha! You and me both. (See my post above-- same subject.) My husband is blind, and it just galls me that people constantly endanger him. They don't even honor the white cane laws (always stop for a blind person with a cane). Even the MBTA bus drivers frequently run the stop sign near our apartment building, or straddle the crosswalk and make it really dangerous to get to the other side of the street because we have to go out in oncoming traffic to do it.
