today i got a new little fella his name Zack , hes a shitzu terrier cross of some sort .. i think he is about 10 years old give or take the shelter couldnt place him cuz of his age but his a right smart little fella and has just waltzed right into my heart and into our little canine rescue family and settled right in lol

unfortunately we just spent the last few hours shaving off his bad matted hair with a beard trimmer and right now my bed is getting crowded

Poem for an Old Dog
One by one they pass my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his prime he can't run and play,
Then they shake their heads slowly and go on their way.
A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.
Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail,
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn't belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.
Whatever excuse they made in their head
Can't justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
The younger dogs get adopted away.
When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face and I finally had hope.
You saw thru the grey, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond the cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed,
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly and want me to know.
I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
I promise to return all the love I can give,
To You, my dear person, as long as I live.
I may be with you for a week or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart will grieve.
And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,

Congrats on the new old dog, Jgunn. It's weird to me, I mean, I love children, but when I am looking to make a new friend, I look for a grownup with a complex personality. Why don't people select their pets this way? My present dog was six years old when my mom got him. I went with her to the no kill shelter and they were bringing out puppies and I was like, "do you have an older dog, you know, one no one else wants?" And the aid just shrugged and brought out this goofy old Chabrador, who is now my best protector and buddy. Missed opportunity, all y'all that wanted a puppy that day : )

hehe thanks hes a little snuggle bug at the moment and seems to be a bit clingy but i think it will wear off once he realizes hes family and not going anywhere

I mean, the poor dude was stuck in an awful bland "shelter" prison. I bet that it will take some time for him to realize he ain't gonna be going back there. Its good of you to rescue him and take him to a real home

How cute and of course I have my little old man who is just over 10 years old, and he acts like a puppy sometimes, other times he's napping with one eye open keeping watch but at night he's snoring away like a human

I am going to save and print out the poem..and post on a wall..it also could describe how I'm feeling about myself right now.

Enjoy and let him be clingy for the time being, I know how that need myself.

i am super bummed right now. a friend is going away for a couple of weeks and we had planned on doggy sitting her little hound for her but she's changed her mind at the last minute and poocheroo is going to be staying with her daughter elsewhere. wah! happy for the woofer to be in familiar company but little and i were totally looking forward to the 4 legged company. she is such a sweet little kleenex box cover of a dog too, very gentle little rescue puppy herself. *sad*

we have a friend who's dog is about to have puppies. we can't keep one ourselves but we're going to go visit them for sure! they'll be so cute, she's a border collie and they have the sweetest little fluff balls imaginable!

My husband and I adopted an old cat 2 years ago--he is about 18 now. He has added so much to our lives and we're really blessed to be giving him his final home.

8. she had 8 puppies. it was like a squirmy little pile of shiny black silk. so freaking cute man, i wanted to squish them in a big wriggly bunch!
