LOLs!!!! I've visited that website before and found it fascinating, but there are a lot of new ones I didn't see last time. This one really killed me:
"A wheel of brie stuffed with chocolate and baked in a puff pastry."

Ooh Tamukha, I'm so tempted to buy that book! Interesting "culture" we North Americans have eh? And I confess that I had to stop looking before too long as well, my stomach was turning over after a page or two. Ugh.

Here's another for you...

Don't throw up.

Yummy.

Looks like the menu at my local diner down the street.
Just various ways of re-arranging GREASE.

The "meat baby" is truly sick.

coco,

As you know, I have a very strong stomach, having been a former pre-med and culinary major. But I must say that when I first heard the turducken described, I did have to think of a basketfull of fresh, scented roses to keep from turning the conversation into a tragic physiological event. I prepare Thanksgiving for my family. I am technical and respectful about it, as a means of atoning for what my dinner has required to occur. Turducken is a travesty, plain and simple. These animals died for this? For some knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing, inbred descendant of sod eaters to treat their lurid remains as matryoshkas? No, no, it is an offense against cuisine, Nature, and the Creator, all at once. I refuse to even be acquaintances with any of the turducken crowd.

"Pattycake, Pattycake Baker's Shame" had me in STITCHES... I just had to get off the site as I was laughing so hard I scared the bewhatsits out of my dog!!! Still wiping the tears away as I type... Got to go back there and look around some more; I haven't had a laugh like this in far too long - thanks, Tamukha!

Coco:

After the third item on the first page I was leaning over the counter turning an interesting shade of green; after the second page I'd just about had it, but waited a few hours and had a second peek at a few more. I'm floored. And what gets me is that there are people who actually EAT this stuff, too (anybody remember Chicken-fried Bacon?)!

Soraya,

My brother got me the coffee table book based on Lileks's website for a Christmas present a couple of years ago, and I still laugh out loud when I look at it. I have lent it to several smart-about-food people and they almost died laughing, just like you. You are most welcome : )

I'm sorry Tamukha, the turducken isn't even the worst of that kind of thing...

Thankfully there are no pictures to go along with the description.

Have you read any of Jeffrey Steingarten's work? This book blew me away, still does even though most of the info isn't applicable to my diet anymore.

coco,

Ah, Jeffrey Steingarten, the thinking man's Andrew Zimmern. I always especially relished[ha!] his column in GQ. He has a real sensualist's approach to food, and a deep understanding of the cultural aspects of eating. I bet if we plied him with a heap of raw mango chunks, he'd be waxing poetic in 2 seconds : )

As for the stuffed camel recipe, the title alone had me bolting from the room. I came back and scanned the ingredients, and all I can say is, what a lamentable waste of fresh nuts.

<<Turducken is a travesty, plain and simple. These animals died for this? For some knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing, inbred descendant of sod eaters to treat their lurid remains as matryoshkas?>>

Okay, let me see here: I understood

1) travesty
2) knuckle dragging
3) mouth breathing LOLsmiling smiley
4) inbred descendant
5) sod eaters
6) lurid remains

But what the HECK is

Turdurcken

and matryoshkas?

huh?

I dont wanna look it up on the net. too lazy. i like people talking to me.

Turdurcken sounds like a duck that just happened to be in the path of a grenaded truck and the metal splinters got into their feathers and such

matryoshkas sounds like a bunch of soppy tasteless boiled matzo balls slightly brushed with polish sesame oil

la_veronique,

Turducken is the thing in coco's original link, whereby various birds are nested within one another for cooking. Matryoshkas are those Russsian nesting dolls.

This thread is becoming so nonvegan it's veering towards the obscene . . . back to the main road with me!

The Widowmaker is scary.
-----------------------
The Widowmaker

1.5 lbs of ground beef, 1 package of bacon, 1 package of italian sausage, 1 box of hot pockets, 1/2 package of fried onion strips between 2 Tombstone Pepperoni Pizzas topped with Velveta Cheese and Marinara Sauce.

I have the 'coffee table' book. It's really good for a laugh!
