Date: April 10, 2011 09:39PM Yes, there was discussion of henna in the past. It's just easier to start a new thread I am thinking of using henna mixed with indigo (to get a dark brown) or just indigo alone. I wonder if anyone has experience with it and how their hair turned out... Re: Plant dyes--anyone ever use indigo?

Date: April 11, 2011 01:29PM I don't think that will work; I've only used indigo in a cloth work project in grade school a long time ago, but I recall it leaves a definite blueing. Add that to the reddish undertone of the henna, and I just don't know . . . Can you cut off a small lock of hair, say on a lower level closer to your scalp, to test the solution on? Date: April 11, 2011 01:55PM Oh there is a site called hennaforhair.com that explains henna, indigo and amla. What they do is combine henna and indigo to get varying shades of brown. So you probably would always use a touch of henna, which is just pure red. I realize that indigo is deep blue--jean dye. right? Re: Plant dyes--anyone ever use indigo?

Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? Re: Plant dyes--anyone ever use indigo?

Date: April 11, 2011 11:07PM I don't know if the red in the henna and the red in the indigo won't compete for supremacy and give you a color not found in Nature but certainly not dark brown What is the amla supposed to do? Re: Plant dyes--anyone ever use indigo?

Date: April 11, 2011 11:42PM This is such an interesting site! About indigo: [www.hennaforhair.com]
Shades you can get from various mixes: [www.hennaforhair.com] Properties and color possibilities of amla: [www.mehandi.com] I didn't know that amla also creates silky hair! This is true of REAL henna. You have to be careful of the type of plant dyes you buy, even in a health store. They can contain some of those harsh chemicals that are so bad for you and that ruin your hair. Re: Plant dyes--anyone ever use indigo?
