How do you clean glass jugs?

Date: April 26, 2011 01:24AM I finally bought some one gallon glass jars for water storing and was wondering how do I clean them? Rinse with soap?
Is there anything I can add in to kill any bacteria from breeding? Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

I have the same problem. I bought 4 glass jugs that are 3L each....about 101 ounces. One gallon would have been too cumbersome for me. I plan to rinse them with hot Tap Water....using no soap.....WY Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

If really warm, it could sterilize the jugs. That's the way I purify the holding-tank of my Water Distiller....turn on the heating element...turn off the fan...and let the steam get the distiller 'hot to the touch'. Now you're ready for some Pure Water.....WY Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

Date: April 27, 2011 01:13AM Wheatgrass Yogi, where do you store your jug - on the floor? I'd like maybe a nice crate or something to put mine in. Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

Right now my 4 water storage jugs are on the floor, but I plan to move them to the table with my Water Distiller. Something I do, and you may want to try, is to use water from a much smaller Glass Jug....it's so much easier to handle for day-to-day use....store water in larger glass jugs...use water from a smaller jug...I use a Carlos Rossi 1.5 Liter Wine Bottle (about 50 ounces) that is just perfect.....WY P.S. I bought the wine at my local Publix, and just poured out the wine in order to use the bottle. Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

Date: October 31, 2013 05:01AM I thought I would just pipe in and recommend what I have ended up doing in my less than fruitful search on cleaning my jugs. I fill my jug up a quarter of the way with water then use a big pan and fill with water, takes less since you will be placing the jug in it, then I put my jug in the pot/pan and get the water lines around the same and set it on the eye and let it roar to a boil inside the jug and pan so the steam kills the rest of the nasties in the jug that the water isn't touching plus no risk of shattering the jug sitting it straight on the iron of the stove and the out side gets sanitized. When done I drain all the water out of the jug and let it sit on the stove to cool which dries it very well also so as to not leave any moisture in it for the breeding of the future nasties. Date: October 31, 2013 03:15PM I don't see what the big deal is. It's WATER! LOL...I have a 5-gallon plastic water dispenser that I bring to Whole Foods for refilling. I sometimes will not even rinse it out but I have no concerns about it whatsoever. Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

I do but never use it. Then you can spray the water into the jug, maybe a smidge of soap and rinse... Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

Date: November 01, 2013 09:51PM The way this works is that you put the bottle upside down and apply downward pressure. Then a potent spray upwards cleans the bottle, draining the dirty water at the same time. Maybe it is hard to explain Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

put a few tablespoons of vinegar shake with the lid on pour out you'll notice it smells a lot fresher too esp. at the top where the lid meets the mouth of the jar where microbes can proliferate rapidly if u put the lid on when there is still moisture Re: How do you clean glass jugs?

But what sorts of microbes are there with a capped jug? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
