Please--dismiss the fact that this is Herman Cain's latest video:

I am approaching this from a purely animal-rights stance and not a political one. He just released a new video and Youtube had banned it temporarily but for some reason I was able to watch it. If you choose to, be forewarned that an animal shooting is simulated: [www.youtube.com]

"Any questions?" asks the girl.

Yes, I can think of a long list of questions begining with "Why in the world would anyone involve a young child in such a horrendous video depicting gross animal cruelty?"

Regardless of the specific political content of this video, I think it is disrespectful to children to USE them to voice the political opinions of adults as though they belong to the child. If this girl can speak intelligently about hindrances to small business and truly cares about this topic, I'll eat the rabbit. Don't worry. I never have and I never will.

I didn't even remember what the agenda was in the video. I started to tense up when I saw that fluffy little bunny taken out of the box. sad smiley

Authoritarian thinkers are endlessly fascinating to me . . . Trive, bear in mind that they believe children are property and ought to reflect the opinions of their grownups.

I must admit that at first I was like, "Herman who?"

Irrelevancies, ha!

On Children
Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Coco, I wanted to copy that one and hand it to a shopkeeper I know who referred to his daughter as a "bum." Very authoritarian guy. Sad that he views his own flesh and blood in such a light. He and his wife are from Eastern Europe and I imagine his daughter may not be following his beliefs.
