Date: May 05, 2012 12:52AM Cool Pertwee, that suspension bridge is very similar to one not far from my home in a national park. I'll have to take a pic of my back yard for ya all to see. Only thing is that the council are 'beautifying' the area. I wish they'd just leave it alone, but they reckon it will bring more tourists.

Date: May 06, 2012 05:16AM Very nice, as the young countries have incredible rugged, jagged mountains. Older continents, such as Australia have there own beauty, like the history, as it's still debated whether man came from Africa or Australia??? Re: Beautiful Places to Visit

Debated? I thought the consensus holds migration on long boats and/or land bridge from southeast Asia to Australia about 40k-ish years ago, no? Re: Beautiful Places to Visit

Date: May 10, 2012 12:56AM Hey Jan, consensus yes, though the consensus doesn't have any real evidence. The land bridge THEORY near the end of the last ice-age is the most popular. But evidence in the form of fossils being dated using the C-14 method show that the oldest bits of human activity should have been near the top end of Oz, but it's not. The oldest fossils are found much further south. Moreover, various types of skeletal remains would suggest a evolutionary factor where the rugged, thick bone structures would give way to a more refined, graceful bone structure. However, within two digs in Australia, the more finer, graceful skeletal structures pre-dated the more primative thick set bone structure.
I've included my very first paper on the subject at uni, which I presented to the class, and there are references as well, to show where I got the info from. Cheers, jalan x Re: Beautiful Places to Visit

So, long boats from Asia then, no? Re: Beautiful Places to Visit

Date: May 11, 2012 03:39AM Damn, my paper didn't go through grrr. Anyhoo, 'long boats from Asia'? maybe, as like I said, there's no concrete evidence for any of the theories. At one stage, there was a theory that humans used long boats from South Africa straight to Tazmania. This was because there have been found very old remains in Tazmania that would suggest it was the first contact point. These remains indicate that people lived there during the last ice age too, incredible.
Personally, it's logical to believe that they came over the land bridge from Asia like you say Tam. But there's no evidence, and even when comparing blood types, genes, language or physical similarities, there is nothing that even comes close to link up with Australian Aborigines. Link the above with the fact that Western Australia is one of the oldest land masses on earth, there's also a theory that humans were first created or evolved there, and then migrated out to the rest of the earth including Africa..... Date: May 22, 2012 04:10AM This is Otawairere Beach. It looks like black sand in this photo, but it isn't. In places it is rice-sized crushed shells that are smooth like beach glass. I used to walk there often, sometimes every day. When I did, I was often the only person on the beach. When you're there, you can't see a house, telephone wires or any buildings at all. The island that you can barely see on the horizon is an active sea volcano. I could see it puffing smoke from my house! The red flowers are on a pohutukawa tree that blooms in December. Mature ones can be as big as an old oak tree. My favorite raw vegan Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/22/2012 04:20AM by Trive. Re: Beautiful Places to Visit
