[fff.org] "On the Fourth of July we celebrate the patriotism and courage of those English revolutionaries who were willing to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in defense of the most revolutionary declaration of rights in history — that man’s rights come from God and nature, not from government." What Are We Celebrating? "In 1776, few imagined or looked to a future of central banks, massive national standing armies, or a federal legal system that regulated the daily lives of Americans down to the most minute details. In fact, had the typical Revolutionary War soldier been told that such a future awaited his country, he would have likely gone home immediately, as such a future would likely appear even worse to him than staying subject to the British Crown’s benign neglect. Yet, in spite of all of this, nothing can change the fact that America’s national holiday is founded on an act of treason and secession, and that the Declaration of Independence was born out of a generation of smugglers and “criminals” who refused to take orders from a far-more-powerful and well-armed government. It’s a reality that may yet prove inconvenient for our government and many others in the future." Re: Happy Independence Day!

On the other hand, I'm personally proud to have direct ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War. One female ancestor is known to have melted the lead weights in her imported grandfather clock to use for bullets. I grew up with that clock in my living room, lead weights replaced, ticking away, and tolling each hour of every day and night. "War, what is it good for? Absolutely Nothing." I believe, at least in the overwhelming majority of cases, that person would be correct. I also grew up with a mounted elk head, shot by General Custer and presented as a gift to an uncle a few generations back, who was a friend and "business man" associated with Custer. Who knows what kind of "business" this uncle was involved in. Land deals maybe? Well, I've looked at life from both sides now. One very good piece of news: THE CONFEDERATE FLAG IS DOWN. DOWN. IT'S DOWN. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
