WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

Date: February 29, 2008 08:56AM i've been thinking about this
momentum and how... its such a powerful thing something really small to instigate something greater... a great dream avalanching into a huge dazzling snowball i'm interested in what others have to say about momentum and about how they use this to reach their goals/dreams i find that i have to be VERY observant sometimes so that i hold onto the string of momentum its like a dance, it has a certain rhythm and flow but i have to be careful when it starts to wane because its also very fragile as well but the more aware i am the more i can use it to my advantage ( its hard to stop a snowball when its rolling down a very tall steep vertical mountain at lightning speed) anyhow... what are your thoughts on momentum or maybe i ought to say FLOW but really i feel momentum is a lot more long term like someone trying to complete a marathon and training day after day week after week etc you build momentum and i'm also interested in how people maintain momentum after they feel it is on the verge of being severed i find that i can almost chart a graph on how my momentum seems to be going it definetely has its above the y=0 axis peaks but then it can slump slowly... gradually towards the y=0 axis ( not sure how else to word it) and sometimes i'm not aware of it...that slow inching downwards could be a result of a not so productive thought that could deter my momentum and when i'm aware of it and then if i make a choice to turn it around, i can... but awareness is key for me but then i see it inching upwards ( sometimes at great speeds) then sometimes if i think a negative thought.. it can crash down pretty quickly so my thoughts are pretty important too anyhow... momentum is such interesting subject for me the patterns are so interesting too i remember talking to a friend of mine who was a runner, played in a band and was also diabetic she and I were talking about "momentum" and how she has to really pay a lot of attention to how it flows and is blocked because she is also a single mom and she says how she really must keep track of the rhythm of her day /thoughts/ action in order to be on top of things because she can't afford to lose momentum anyhow... she said " sometimes you're ON ... and sometimes you're NOT" and i took that to meaning that sometimes the momentum is there.. and then sometimes it seems to get deterred but anyhow... she is not raw vegan and i'm not sure if she is even vegan but she also believes that its important to pay attention to momentum she has to pay attention to her blood sugar levels constantly but she still manages to do great in distance running anyhow... what are people's thoughts on MOMENTUM? how do u keep track of it? it seems like an insane question to ask because its such an ephemeral topic like chasing after a butterfly but i think its a powerful one and also kind of mysterious i'm interested in hearing what u have to say people can give their own definitions and examples too i think paying attention to my thoughts, organizing my time... keeping a balanced perspective... placing priority on things that mean a lot to me.. these help but i know there MUST be something else LOL Edited 1 time(s). I am always deeply aware of momentum, progression, goals, I'm involved with so many things at one time it's like shooting at a room full of moving targets it takes dicipline and priorities to hit a target in this room so i always have a long list of things to do what ever I write on paper happens eventualy if the mamy targets become too mezmorizing then it's time for biking, hiking, playing music-not just cds but play guitar, or all juice for awhile then the targets seem easier and funner to hit.............. elnatural Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? Date: February 29, 2008 02:23PM the more i do, the more i get done. funny that, on a day off the whole thing can just fritter away and not even the dishes get washed but when i have a plan, a schedule, i just get up and GO! incredible. Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

<<<I'm involved with so many things at one time it's like shooting at a room full of moving targets it takes dicipline and priorities to hit a target in this room >>> ha.. yeah. that sounds like me.. always doing several things all at once and wanting to do them all at the same time LOL you are TOTALLY right. it really does take a lot of discipline to just cut out pieces of time and do things one at a time but that doesn't mean i have to do just THAT thing and complete it before i go to another.. it just means that i can only do ONE thing ( it could be for only 20 minutes) before i decide to devote attention to another its cool u are making that blonde wood pear shaped guitar with raw frets thanks for putting up the Marooned thread too.. AWESOME! its good to know there are others out there who are interested and doing all sorts of things that suit their fancy HEY COCO! yeah... your post made me laugh too its so true the times i have a plan and its really organized there is pretty much nothing that i CAN'T do its just one thing than another that i get done check check check off the list and it DOES build momentum but when i want to "wing it" and don't have a plan its not a pretty sight LOL thanks both of you for your great input got more fuel to build momentum let's keep the momentum of this thread going i LOVE it!! Date: February 29, 2008 11:06PM According to physics, in the aabsence of an opposing force, an item in motion will continue on the at the existing momentum. Examples of these opposing forces are gravity, applying brakes to a vehicle, muscles and ligaments involved in movement, etc.
In it's own way this principle seems to also apply in life, in that too often our goals are hindered because of external or even internal forces that interfere with our activities and affect our momemtum as we strive to soar to our maximum potential. Unfortunately sometimes as a result, we come to a full stop or slow down so much that the benefits to what we are doing are hardly noticed. Wishing you vibrant health Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

Date: February 29, 2008 11:18PM some targets are very fun to shoot at
and some aren't If you only shoot at the fun ones eventualy it won't be fun many will try to tell you which ones to shoot at, when, why, and how but stick to your own plans elnatural Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

Date: February 29, 2008 11:57PM momentum can be lossed by not hitting any targets for a long time
or by hitting many targets in a row that creates euphoria that may cause you to relax and just think about what you have done but yesterday's fun often doesn't carry on to today so you must keep shooting every day no matter what elnatural Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

Date: March 01, 2008 01:49AM if i have to do something REALLY boring, ( like filing a bunch of papers etc), then i keep momentum by listening to my FAVORITE songs ( its got to be REALLY good to keep me from abandoning the paper filing thing)
and i then forget i'm filing because i just get into the music yeah, so boring things must be made fun and the fun things? those are hard to stop... so no problem there.. heh heh the thing is that in order to do the fun things sometimes i got to do the not so fun things so i got to make everything fun that can be a challenge what really helps me is managing my time that is key and ... oh i don't know that is why i put up this thread to get more ideas hee hee hey pistachio like the cookie thief poem u put up there keep the momentum going ! Date: March 01, 2008 11:10AM It makes everything easier. To keep it going forever may be wise to have as as much of a goal as your goals themselves. - Jamielor's other half Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

Date: March 01, 2008 03:05PM LaV, I gave a few years of my life to studying the momentum equations (which must be coupled to conservation of mass, energy, and in the case of gases, the equation of state) and yes they are very cool and beautiful. Those were the best years of my life, for sure. Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

- Jamielor's other half>> hi jamelior's other half LOL yeah.. actually you are soooooooooSOOOOOO right about that it does make things a LOT easier ... thanks for putting that out there arugula: wow... how refreshing to hear that you really enjoyed studying those equations and considered it the best years of your life people who are always curious about the underlying nature of things are endlessly rewarded curiosity doesn't kill the cat it revives them!! Date: March 01, 2008 07:39PM I think there are a lot of great ideas here about momentum... this thread seems to have momentum!!!
I do find personally sometimes I'm not feeling it.. but it's just a matter of realigning myself, like the captain of a ship... it's ok to go slightly off course, just correct your heading and keep going! Re: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOMENTUM? ( curious)

<< just a matter of realigning myself, like the captain of a ship... it's ok to go slightly off course, just correct your heading and keep going!>> hmmm.. yeah i like that i do that a LOT constantly realigning the mast gotta roll with the storms, ya know? i also like breaking things down to small tasks it makes it fun and i internalize it a lot more especially if it involves either muscle or mental memory hi narz !
