Hidden Ingredients

As far as I know, the only time when a product does not need to list an ingredient is when the ingredient is used to say "line" or "dust" the insides of the product's container. My understanding of this is that if a company wants to add unlisted preservatives to a food item, they may do this by dusting the inside of the food item's container as opposed to adding the preservative to the food.

Is this the only case i have to watch out for or are there other ways companies can get around to adding hidden ingredients?

chemicals used in processing don't have to be listed as they aren't "ingredients" in the finished product, though they are certainly present in the food itself.
you can avoid it all by only using food in it's whole, natural state. that's the only way to know for sure, though even then sometimes food is bathed or coated in something mysterious.

"Spices," "Natural flavors," anything ambiguous can be shorthand for a MASSIVE list of artificial flavorings/MSG/you name it,

Still, in their "natural state", some produce have hidden chemicals to them. Like non-organic oranges and apples are waxed with petroleum based wax... Organic ones aren't.
