Are "raw" almonds really raw?

Can I trust that almonds which I buy in bulk bins and which are labeled as "raw" really are raw?
I read different things about some pastorization law and really wonder if the almonds I buy are raw or not.
Sprouting does not really work since almond sprouds do hardly look different than unsoaked ones...

No, I would go with a company that says "no pasteurization."

Are in shell almonds a sure shot?

To continue on that lie of thinking, why is that that most of the time when I buy in-shell nuts at the grocery they taste close to nothing? Can they be altered in some way or too old or something like it?

Every nut Raw From the Farm sells is really raw. I don't know about in stores. You can always ask the manager.

Sure thing.

I love those guys. They give you the option of cellulose bags and have the BEST customer service. They also sell sea vegetables and dried fruit ect.

Only almonds are under mandatory irradiation... presently. angry smiley

But if this concerns you, you might want to check out something called Codex Alimentarius (you can search the boards here for info, too), and other moves to irradiate the entire food supply.

Certain nuts also have heat (above 118F) used in the shelling process, and can still be used as raw. Brazil nuts you should try to buy in shell.
