eating avocado pits?

I saw a reference to this on another post.

Is this for real?

ALSO - eating the inside of apricot pits? Isn't that superbly bitter? How would one even open up an apricot pit? (Hammer, pliers, what?)

I have a pair of vice-grips that have silicon pads at the stress points which are ideal for cracking open peach, apricot, and plum pits to get at the almond-like seed inside. Some are bitter, but most are not.

I've not tried cherries, but want to. If anyone has, let us know how they are.

I put avocado pits in my Waring Xtreme with some water and they blend nicely. They are very high in fiber.

Wow. How interesting. I bet the big avacado seeds (florida grown) would be great! They even seem softer. So, flash, you just drink the mixture - or spoon it? And it tastes decent?

I always have it with the avocado flesh and a tomato or two at a minimum. Usually, I add a key lime, bunch of green onion, a jalapeƱo, a couple of cloves of garlic, and a bunch of cilantro to make a runny guacamole in the blender which I eat with celery or organic yellow corn tortilla chips (not raw).

I wonder how this would taste using fresh raw Jicama slices ?

i'm just curious and a bit ignorant

why would u eat the avocado pits for fiber?
wouldn't just about ANY other dark green leafy veggie do for fiber content?

it would also be easier on the blades too

The fiber in avocado pits is soluble fiber which helps keep my cholesterol in check. I could use dark leafy greens, but I have the pit readily available when I use the avocado. So far the blade is holding up just fine.

That was my concern - the blade. I am definitely going to try it - and love the guac idea. I have been making salsa frequently to put on top of salads, but am surprised by how sensitive I am to cilantro and onions now. Whew! A little goes a long way, and before going raw, I could eat both in much larger quantities.

Apricot pits are probably toxic. Better research it carefully.

Are they or aren't they? Why would you say that they "probably" are?

On Rawswammy.com it says you can eat the avocado pits. It talks about soluable fiber. I also noticed on blindguru.com it says the same thing.

I think Rawswammy and BlindGuru are the same person.
I'd say an Avocado Pit is not meant to be eaten.....WY
