Nutritionnal value of young coconuts!

Date: July 24, 2008 04:22PM I googled alot on young coconuts, and all i seem to find is that they contain approoximatly 140 calories (wich i doubt is true) and a total fat content of only 3 grams???
I would like to know a site that has reliable nutritionnal information on young coconuts. I'm not a 100% 80-10-10, but i fallow the pattern alot, so i'm checkig my fat consumption. I know it must be a little hard to give the correct nutritionnal value for them, since you can have some that are very young (purple jelly flesh) and some that are a little more mature (firm but still jellyish white flesh) Re: Nutritionnal value of young coconuts!

Date: July 25, 2008 02:12PM That's all I've seen too, and I also find it a little difficult to believe. The water might be low calorie, but most of the young coconuts have enough meat to be well over 140 Calories. Re: Nutritionnal value of young coconuts!

One vendor might sell "young" coconuts meant to be eaten by a straw with the meat discarded, in which case 140 calories sounds about right. Another vendor might sell them with a straw AND spoon, in which case I've yet to see the nutritional info offered. I've seen coconuts called various names by various sources according to their maturity i.e. baby or tender jelly young half mature beige (almost mature) mature, brown [healing.about.com] Calories range from 140 to 1400 (mature meat only) per coconut depending on maturity as far as I can figure.. Date: July 27, 2008 05:49PM I'm SURE the delicious ones I was eating have more than 140 calories. Probably over 500! The meat was thick but pliable, and severely delicious. Re: Nutritionnal value of young coconuts!

Date: July 31, 2008 04:29PM I can beat that - $6.99 for a pack of 9 at the 99 Ranch Markets around here. Google the store to check locations, if you have them around it's a great deal. Re: Nutritionnal value of young coconuts!

Date: August 13, 2008 08:28PM hey thanks!
It makes a bit more sense, but since they sell them from purple/jellyish to white/thick, almost mature, i guess the calorie and fat content changes enormosly! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
