Figs - which ones don't need wasps?

Date: August 12, 2008 05:29PM I saw a fascinating program on the life of a fig tree awhile ago. If I remember correctly, some figs require wasps in order to develop properly. In this case, the wasp goes inside the developing fig, lay eggs, and then gets dissolved by enzymes.
So...does anyone know which fig varieties do NOT require wasps? Re: Figs - which ones don't need wasps?

Date: August 12, 2008 06:24PM It appears that most varieties grown for fresh consumption do not require pollination by the specialized wasp. This includes Black Mission and Brown Turkey. It appears that the Smyrna fig (a Caprifig) does need such a wasp. Just some quick research.
