Recipes (801010) and workouts

What are some good recipes that include some more greens and vegetables that some of you enjoy?

I'm not enjoying tomatoes and cucumbers to much, or salads. I know it's important to incorporate greens and vegetables into this diet as well, but I would also like to enjoy my meal. I will keep on trying more recipes that are in the book but so far they're hard to eat a lot of. AH

Recipes with like.. broccoli, kale, any lettuce/salads, bok choy, cucumber, other vegetables-- anything that you find absolutely delicious that I could start out liking.

It could just be that I don't have an acquired taste yet for the raw vegetables(I mean that's it probably haha)

Raw vegetables (non-sweet fruit/leafy greens) provide good minerals, sodium, calcium and magnesium, and also iron. I know only a small quantity is needed - but in the 811 world, small isn't THAT small compared to how much fruit you get to eat.

Right now I'm strangely attracted to dates, medjool. They are love in a box (plastic container..) yum

Also, I feel slightly sick from what I assume is detox, I think my digestive system is all f-ed up and I hope it fixes itself soon because it's intruding a bit with my workouts.

DOES anyone know - a quick question - why you get those little stick prickly feelings in your lungs or your collar bone when you're doing a cardio workout - sort of like a kickboxing class-esque workout - is that dehydration, or is that eating too soon/not enough before exercise, stomach problems --any info on that would be great because that also intrudes sometimes on my workouts (it hasn't in a while but is recently, but I always wondered the cause if anyone knows exactly)

I did bikram yoga yesterday, ate some dates and a kind of icky green smoothie, and then more yoga, so now my ass is sore sore sore and my neck is killing me and that plus a detox feeling isn't great. ALSO i can't sit outside and bask in the sun which I would normally do to make me feel better, but the clouds will not allow it, so I am just stuck inside to just chilll..and I guess thats cool too. just sitting inside, watching the olympics, wanting to be UNSORE and active.

neck relaxation tips anyone?

sorry for the long post, it's a bitch day to some point

I'm not sure, but you may be referring to what is known in the running world as a "side stitch". It's a sharp pain usually felt in the lungs. I am reading Bragg's Super Power Breathing. This is what it says:

Perhaps you have already experienced a stitch in the side when you have had to run to catch a bus or plane, or while doing some unaccustomed exercise. Actually this can be a good sign, if you will profit by it. It is good to exercise to the point of getting that stitch. What it really means is that you have discovered a large area of unused lung cells, which have remained closed most of your life, since childhood. Now your lungs are opening to recieve the fresh air you are pumping in through your efforts to breathe more deeply. The diaphragms of older people can become semi-paralyzed from non-use....As lung cells suffer disuse they begin to stick together and collapse in upon themselves. The sharp pain is due to the air forcing these cells apart. Contine to breathe deeply, even after you have caught the bus, plane or stopped your exercise, run, etc. The distress soon passes and your unused lung cells will soon become reactivated.

Hope that helps :-)

i think it best not to eat something that doesn't taste good

you may desire greens if you eat fruit for a while without forcing greens

just 2 random thoughts to consider

Yeah, it doesn't make me feel great to eat bad things haha, so everyday i just experiment with different things together and some days I'll have some good ones and then it will even out and I'll know my tastebuds eventually. I'll work on it, but I definitely am not aiming to force anything down - it's best to just enjoy it, aww yeah

I bought Graham's "The High Energy Diet Recipe Guide" and that was helpful as a starting point. Unfortunately (or fortunately for someone else) I gave it to a collegue who is still killing herself with junk food... <sigh>

Anyway, eat what you like. Experiment. Look around the farmers' markets or produce aisles of well-stocked (in produce!) supermarkets and see what appeals to you. Be willing to try new things.

For me, though, the key is keeping it simple.

Last night for dinner, I took some baby greens and some mashed up avocado and put it in a nori roll and was perfectly happy with that.

Breakfast today was apricots earlier and a couple of bananas a little while ago.

Neck relaxation? I'm grateful that my health insurance covers chiropractic. However, once in a while I head over to the big commercial mall near my house and get a fifteen minute neck/shoulder chair massage and that works wonders. Then I flee the insanity and plastic commercialism as fast as I can!

I love this food!
