Do Mosquitos Bite Raw People??

I recently read that raw foodists are significantly less likely to be bitten by mosquitos...is there merit to this? Has anyone experienced less mosquito action? more? same? I'm SO curious!!!

Your question has got me thinking, actually I haven't seen a mosquito in 2 years which is probably not a good thing! They spray pretty heavily in my part of northern california due to the west nile virus. The rare buzzing fly seems to be liking my flavor a lot lately though. When I swat one away, it just keeps hanging around me very closely, fearless and courageous. lol.

If I'm by myself or with other vegans, it's about equal attraction to each person.

If I'm with meat eaters, it seems as though the mosquitoes go for the omnivores.

I wonder if that is what has happened to the bees too ?

I went hiking in the Maine woods this summer. They LOVED me and my mom who is 90% vegan (cooked).

There MIGHT indeed be some people that do not get bit at all. I've been all-raw for 10 years....and they'll still take a crack at me! Ha! ha! The surest bet to prevent bites in infested areas is always to wear all over, light-colored clothing. Wear thick, high socks to protect the ankles. Wear a wide brimmed hat and a $2.00 camping head net. If you wish to put on DEET or some other chemical, put it on the outside of your clothing to minimize contact and apply to the most sensitive areas like the ankles and the top of your head.

I haven't had a mosquito bite in the years that I've been modified Raw. Of course, I don't live in FL, either. I did however see a mosquito in my laundry area and it didn't go after me. I killed it as I couldn't see a way of getting it outside and I didn't want it to bite me.

I do know that the fruit flys go for me, though. I've even been bitten by one in the cheek! It hurts. I have to be careful that they don't fly into my mouth. Guess I smell like fruits/veggies.

rawangel,

Is there any chance that people are coming in contact with the pesticides used for mosquito control? There are organophosphates that are used as mosquito insecticides (Temephos, malathion), and these organophosphates have been implicated in Alzheimer's disease and Mad Cow disease.

Picture swimmer sleeping soundly on his comfortable bed, his gills rising and falling in a gentle rhythm, the peaceful look of a blissful dream on his face and suddenly...
SMACK scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch!
Waking up in the middle of the night...
SMACK! darn, scratch, scratch, scratch!

Yup, they still like the taste of me!

i think they like people who are allergic to them.

but i love sitting outside with my father, b/c they prefer him.

my husband can sit next to me and be fine,
unless i'm drinking a LOT of green juice daily.

for some reason the broccoli aroma coming out of my skin is not appealing
(to man or mosquito)

peace-

Hi orangeflame,

Definitely less mosquito action for me since changing my diet.

I'm outside all the time & they used to devour me. Now I rarely ever get bitten. I couldn't be happier.

I am raw and recently I was attacked really bad while hiking near a pond in the woods. I have only been completely raw for a few months, so either it was because I have not been raw for long enough, it doesn't make a difference or I was just in a heavily populated area and the mosquitos were hungry. I wonder if it helps to be near a SAD eater, because than the mosquitos will choose them over you. That might be an effective repellent. lol

Raw garlic helps keep mosquitoes from biting. Use to get bitten like crazy & was hanging out with a neighbor one night & he was scratching everywhere like I use to & nothing was happening to me. I use it in salads, salsa, soups, etc.

I think it depends on how hungry the mosquitoes are.

Do you think they are like, "Bzzzt, #)(*$@)@!$%, another vegan!!" ? ^.~

They bite me less--I think the big difference is no scented body products. But they still bite.

They also tend to eat the SAD eaters before me in a group setting.

I rarely get bitten (even before I was raw). When I do, I notice it itches for a minute, I see the tiny bump. and then it fades away--no more itching and it's gone. My husband, on the other hand, gets bitten and he feels it so intensely and can't stop scratching. His bites welt up (probably because of him scratching, but possibly because he's a bit allergic to the bites). He has a problem with flee bites, too.

I have been vegetarian since a very young age, and he has been a meat eater. I have no idea if diet really has anything to do with it, however, because my daughter gets bitten and they welt up like crazy on her (and she's been vegetarian all of her life, and vegan most of it).

I'm sure some day scientists will figure out what it is that causes them to be more attracted to some people than others.

Lots of love to you,

Wendi
XOXOXO

its the smell of a person...

the more pleasant...the mosquitos like that person....

more toxic/ chemical smelling people.....mosquitos stay away from because it resembles the smell similar to a bug of repellant...

How funny to come across this post!

The last week I have been getting something fierce!!

In fact, last night I was literally up ALL night (couldn't get to bed til 8am) scratching, scratching, scratching the little you know whats away!
Of course I stay up for other reasons (I'm a night owl musician) but seriously,
I thought I was going to die.

It's a bit warm in Tyrol at the moment so I like the windows open.
So it's either suffocate and have less bites or see how I do on that particular
night when I want to breath!
Hard call to make!!

:-)

leibe grüße,
Chris

P.S

I just had a funny thought...

Maybe by being the last person awake with her light blaring and windows WIDE open at some ungodly hour, the bugs are guided to me and my bug-inviting body like the north star!

I have always been the preferred victim whenever I'm in a heavy mosquito area. Raw has not changed this for me. Also my sensitive skin and allergy to mosquitoes is still present. Last time I was hiking in a National park I got at least a dozen bites, most of which swelled up quite hugely. I was actually really tired and weak for a couple of days after the fact, not to mention ITCHY!!
