Is it possible to cure dementia with 100% or improve, at least with 50%? /Healthybun Re: Dementia cureble?

Date: October 25, 2008 02:44PM Some forms of dementia are temporary and reversible, maybe due to vitamin deficiencies or reversible vascular blockages, things like that. Search pubmed for reversible dementia.
But the common type that accompanies aging, probably not. Re: Dementia cureble?

Date: October 25, 2008 03:08PM The best thing is prevention. Speaking more than one language, being musical, staying educated, continuing to challenge the brain, and of course good diet and not drinking too much all help.
My dad has it, he is 80 this year. He has really gone downhill fast in the last five years. He had a pretty good lifestyle, he was a physician, he spoke two languages, ate the Mediterranean diet, was never overweight, exercised, never got drunk, read books, gardened. But about 10 years ago he married a woman who was pointedly inferior in every way, I don't think she ever stimulated or challenged his brain, and I feel it contributed to his swift decline. Never stop learning! Re: Dementia cureble?

do you know if your dad consumed much aspartame? so many seniors i know, including my mom, have dementia and in fact consumed diet sodas and diet foods long term. i believe it is a factor along with your excellent list. fruitgirl Re: Dementia cureble?

Date: October 25, 2008 05:28PM By conventional means (western med + western diet), dementia is a one way street, that is, it only gets worse.
By natural hygienic means, it might be possible to reverse. The cause of the brain damage can be removed by a hygienic lifestyle. However, there is the damage that has already occurred. Given the lifestyle condition for health, the body ought to be able to regrow the parts of the brain that were damaged. The spongy brain can be a solid brain again. But then, after the damage is fixed, there is retraining of this new brain matter, and the memories and learning that was lost may remain lost. But new learning and new memories are always possible.
