wheatgrass variety secret!

I have just ordered some wheatgrass and equipment to start growing my own. Having read much on this forum I decided to enquire what variety of wheatgrass the company had sent me. The strangest reply came back - they said they weren't being funny with me but they don't tell people what the variety is but they can tell me that it is a very old spring milling variety.

what do you make of that?

I have asked them why they don't tell but I don't know if an explanation will be forthcoming.

There are over 500 varieties of Avocados. I imagine Wheat is similar. The Variety isn't as important as the Strain. Either Hard Red Winter or Hard Red Spring should serve you very well if the Wheat is grown and harvested properly. I have gotten old, broken seed that didn't Germinate well.
Warm-Glow says to buy from Natural Way Mills in Minnesota. She was a Professional Grower, and knows.
Good Seed is most important. Buy the best you can find. If you get a bad 'batch', throw it out for the Birds.
Good Luck with your growing. Keep us posted......WY

Thanks WY.
The answer is on this page. www.browfarmwheatproducts.co.uk/wheatgrass.htm

this is the company that I have used so far. they seem quick and efficient and very dedicated. As an experienced wheatgrass consumer I would appreciate your opinion (from what you can tell By reading a web site)

Not telling you is bogus. Fifty pound sacks of wheatberry seeds in the heavy paper have a stamp of what it is. Find an honest vendor.

Has any body grown kamut? I have had the best sucess with growing kamut it sprouts quicker and grows faster than the hard winter wheat I have used. The only draw back is kamute is three times more expensive than regular red wheat.

WY, I have seeds that are 2 years old, but are still in a sealed package. Do you think they are too old? I've been preoccupied and ordered everything that long ago. Ironically, I planned to start growing some wheatgrass this weekend. Now I'm thinking maybe I need to purchase new seeds???? What do ya think? Thanks for your help.

They will be fine if they were good to begin
with. Wheat (Kamut) was found in the Mummies Tombs that
was still sproutable. All the other seeds and grains had
turned to Dust.....WY

Have you tried to grow kamut w,y? The grains are twice the size as hard red wheat and they grow so fast in comparison. the grass blade is fatter as well.

Pampam.....Yes I have...several different times
using Seed from several different sources. I must be doing
something wrong, as I can't get it to Germinate properly.
Only about half of it will grow. What does grow, grows very
well. I always go back to regular Wheat Berries for a bigger
crop......WY
