I am losing all my hair!!
Posted by: Tashi ()

I am rapidly losing my hair and I have no idea why!! It started about 2 months ago and I honestly have lost 1/3 to half my hair! I have been mainly raw for about two years so I don't think it has anything to do with that. I get my hair streaked but get it done with aveda natural products and it has never been a problem before....I really don't know what to do, this is really bad. I have not lost a large amount of weight or anything, I have been trying to get enough protein and eat well....I have been very stressed and I started a new job about two months ago and I have been felt very stressed for a long time. But even so, I do yoga and meditate and all that stuff...I just can't see why this is happenning? I really don't want to go bald!

I'd go to your doctor, have blood drawn, and check for deficiencies of all minerals and see if you can pin point the problem.

I'd also suggest going to a qualified medical hair specialist.
He will take a couple of hair samples, do various tests on them, and possibly
track down the problem (or part of the problem).

-Must be very distressing.

-Reasonable sunlight, fresh air, and an absence of chemical / processed irritants on your skin (or ingested) will go a long way. If you are really concerned....see a professional....but don't stress! Plenty of punk girls I dated has some pretty radical haircuts! winking smiley

I agree. GO to the doctor to check for a vitamin defficiancy check. Stress makes hair fall out, too. It might be a thyroid problem, too. Get checked for that! Many women suffer from hypothyroidism and lose alot of hair. I did.

Stress is NO DOUBT the main culprit.

If you are still feeling stress from a job you have had for 2 months maybe it is time to insist on changes to your position -- or time to move out of there! Stress can kill a person in so many ways.

Re Hair: The Green Smoothies are also no doubt great for the hair! I recently read GREEN FOR LIFE by Victoria Boutenko but started doing the green smoothies even before I got her book and after only 2 weeks of these green smoothies it is really CHANGING MY LIFE and I feel it is THE biggest breakthrough I have made in my diet since I first went raw in the early '90s. (I've been a yo-yo between raw and SAD for a good half of those years.)

I feel as if my whole life is transforming in a most wonderful way and just can't say enough about the healing properties of the greens -- which must be pre-masticated such as in a blender so that the body can assimiliate them.

One pound of kale gives more dietary protein than the U.S. minimum daily requirement. Wow. Rotate the greens and rotate the fruits for variety in nutrients and minerals, etc. (But I like to add apples every day, though different types of apples at different tmes.)

Just my two cents in case anything chimes with you. winking smiley winking smiley winking smiley

Hi, Tashi. . .

Here is another take on losing your hair: I have heard others talk about this happening and their experience and explanation was that it is nothing to worry about. Some people say it is the old falling away and making way for the new. In other words, your hair may fall out but fresh new better thicker shinier hair will grown in!

This sort of thing happened with my skin in various places, especially my face and feet. It was kinda weird, but the skin got scaly and peeled off but then the most beautiful skin developed from then on out.

The period of adjustment/detoxification/purification is an interesting one and I have found it is miraculous to observe and feel your body healing itself.

So maybe nothing at all is "wrong" and it is all good!

Julie

Hi,

I have been eating coconut oil and green smoothies and that has seemed to slow it down a lot. Thank you for all your advice. I did some tessts at the doctor but I didn't have any major deficiencies but I was low on iron and B12. I think it also must have been the hairdresser that I went to or something.

I'm glad it's slowed down for ya'! I know things used on my hair make a huge difference in the amount of "shedding" I do. My hair is exteemely touchy, too.

Here's a good page on the green smoothies:

Also plenty of grass juice is always very good.

I have never had much problem with this, but I did notice that when I went 6 months without using any chemicals on my hair (shampoo, hair dye, products etc) I experienced hardly any hair loss when washing/brushing my hair. I recently started using shampoo again and got highlights, and I've noticed some hair loss. Not enough to be worried; only as much as I always had - ya know, the hair in the shower, or on the brush, but it made me realise the difference when I didn't use any chemicals. It seems that when you're raw the head seems quite efficient at rejecting chemically treated hair.

So it may be an idea to try going chemical free for a few months and see how that works. Use natural stuff like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar for washing.

Good luck x

i quit bleaching and coloring my hair about a year ago
and was pleasantly surprised to find how nicely lemon juice
spritzed on my hair in the sun gives a nice highlite...
actually alot more natural looking than the chemicals
ever did.

i've also used hydrogen peroxide which works even better,
but not sure of any toxicity with that.

I personally found that adding evening primrose oil to my daily intake helped a lot. I think any omega-3 rich sources will help.

I've had the hair loss problem due to medication, and I was not calm about it. Keeping my fat intake up to about 25-30% (including the evening primrose oil, which is heavy on the GLA) has helped, but has not cured the problem for me.

Coconuts are also a part of my diet, until my stash runs out, then I'll have to scrounge some more.

Stress sucks.

Good luck - it's gotta get better for you!
