Date: July 20, 2009 04:01PM Hey there... How are you all doing this fine sun shiny day?
I am well except that i just ate some fresh figs and now my tongue and lips hurt as if maybe i just ate some stinging nettles not a good feeling... anyone have an explanation for this... maybe my figs weren't so ripe... how does one tell a ripe fig they were soft... though a few weren't as bright and tasty as i remember from the figs i had in spain... how disappointing i was so excited to have fresh figs... anyone have any idea how to make the stinging feeling stop??? love laugh and dream Re: Fresh Figs

Date: July 20, 2009 05:46PM I know when I pick my figs and they are not ripe enough (they are best when they are almost falling apart from ripeness) there is a white substance that comes out of the broken stem that causes irritation on my hand. It actually burns. Maybe this is what caused your problem. The ripe ones don't have this and they are SOOO good. Re: Fresh Figs

Date: July 20, 2009 09:47PM I get that from dragon fruit and kiwi fruit too. Maybe when we crunch the tiny seeds up, they become abrasive? Re: Fresh Figs

Date: July 21, 2009 12:02AM I got the same reaction from fresh Figs.....burning
tongue, but not lips. They came from California, and were Black Missions. I brushed my mouth out with Baking Soda, and that neutralized the Acid......WY Re: Fresh Figs

Date: July 21, 2009 12:41AM I get this sensation from unripe figs. But last week I bought 5 pounds of adriatics, and I ate 2 pounds at one sitting of super ripe figs, the insides all red and jelly like and sweet, and I had zero fig burn. Yum! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
