Chocolate = Crack

You'd think I would have known better(being raw for 3mo) but nooo. My husband and I went to the mall, to take our children to Barnes and Noble. He suggested we check out the Lindt store. It started with the offer of a free sample, one chocolate coconut bonbon. Then we all started picking out an assortment of miniatures. I picked out 4 70% dark chocolates, ate 2 (in addition to the free sample), I felt fine after eating it. Well about 1 hr later, after getting home, I felt nauseous, sluggish, and developed a headache. I was so drowsy! All these symptoms from 3 miniature dark chocolates! NEVER AGAIN! I've learned my lesson.

Fast forward to dinner, I made a lovely parsnip and carrot slaw with tahini dressing ate that and some fermented cabbage, feel so much better. I guess next time I'll bring along some raisins to munch on while they eat chocolate. If you got this far, thanks for letting me vent smiling smiley

Chocolate is good on occasion, not so much on a regular basis (nor after 9PM).

It's interesting how food effects my mind. I play a lot of speed chess online & chocolate definitely makes me sharper short term (whereas say, a half jar of almond butter makes me less sharp generally).

Chocolate is not crack though. The sugar that's in your average chocolate bar on the other hand...

Chocolate is actually an appetite suppressant.

When I was eating SAD, coffee used to make my mind sharper. It also was an appetite suppressant.

Yeah, I guess, I should have said sugar=crack. Chocolate used to be a mood lifter for me too, but since cutting out sugar and most cooked foods, I guess I have a different reaction now.

Another thing that has happened since going raw, is I have an aversion to coffee, I used to drink it weekly..it was like a treat for me, now I can't even take one sip..it just turns my stomach. I still enjoy the smell, since hubby still drinks it.

[Sugar is crack yes]

Fruit is crack.
Veggies are crack.

They are both loaded with sugar.

Ummm, We were referring to the sugar, that is refined ,processed, and highly addictive similar to crack, which is processed,"refined" for use, and highly addictive too. NOT the naturally occurring sugar...lol smiling smiley

Yes, it does occur naturally. It just has the fiber, the water, the minerals, the vitamins, the fat, the protein, and the phytochemicals removed.

About 95% of the calories in apple or pear come from sugar.

If I had to choose an addiction, let it be fruit and vegetables in their natural state with all the life giving properties intact. Rather than processed substances that have been fortified with processed sugar and other chemicals. So for me, Zanjabil's statement rings true:

Chocolate=crack

processed things labeled "food"=crack.

Glad you were able to vent, learn and grow Zanjabil.

I had a chocolate bar (Green & Black Ogranic, 85% cacao) the other night (after not having eaten anything save maybe an apple or something) all day. Big mistake. I was wired & even woke up feeling jittery.

Raw cacao isn't nearly as bad. That's for sure. Not sure whether it's the processed sugar or the fact that the chocolate has been roasted. Either way I'm staying off the stuff for awhile!
