SUBSTITUTE FOR BREAKFAST CEREAL
Posted by: joewood ()

Hi everyone,

Can anybody suggest a good substitute for the typical kashi breakfast cereal? After reading 'the live food factor' & realizing how much gluten is in wheat cereals I need to have an alternative. I'm still in transition to raw foods having started 1/1/09. I'm using banana milk instead of 'silk' like I used to.

Thanks for your help.

Joe

saw a video a long time ago
of someone making a raw cereal
not sure exactly what was in it except they used a nut milk
i think it was almond milk
so for almond milk, u blend it then sieve it through a cheesecloth

and then cut up pieces of dried and fresh fruit
and then more nuts

that's what i remember about the video
sorry can't remember the name of the girl
but it was from great britain

Sometimes I grind some flax seeds in a coffee grinder and then take a tastey apple and wirl it in a blender till it is the consistancy of applesauce I mix the two ingredients and eat it like oatmeal. I call it flax apple yum.

Hi All,

Thank You all for the great ideas. This is very helpful. However, aren't raw almonds ( which aren't truly raw anymore) necessary for almond milk or can you buy it already prepared?

This morning I had the following in place of cereal:

soaked almonds
soaked sunflower seeds
soaked pumpkin seeds
soaked buckwheat
(all soaked 8+ hours in spring water, drained)
all floating in spring water + apple juice

It was lovely.

I can easily get raw walnuts at my local store...they make great nut milks! I soak mine for a day then drain, rinse and blend 1 cup of nuts to 4 cups water, strain, then return to blender and add 1 TBS vanilla and 3 TBS raw agave. It tastes really good. Lydia's makes a tasty raw cereal (I tried the less expensive cinnamon version)...check out Natural Zing's website. It's on the expensive side, but her cereal is very filling, and you can add chopped bananas and raisins to make it go farther.

I often enjoy what seems like a good replacement for cereal...to me.

I grate an apple in a bowl, chop up a banana and sprinkle the whole thing with cinnamon, walnuts, raisins or cranberries. It is delicious and reminds me of eating cereal. I originally found it in the fit for life cookbook by Marilyn Diamond.

Way before I even knew what the raw food diet was, I poured non-fat soymilk over top of a fruit salad (grapes, cantalope, and honeydew.) It was amazing, but since I don't drink soy anymore, I'd say that banana milk (nut milks have a little too much fat for me in the mornings) would take it to a whole new level of AWESOME!
