>I do a type of push up called a hindu pushup---that is essentially moving from downward dog to upward - or cobra in a circular motion. These can be very tireing as I can do maybe 60-75 regular push ups in a row and maybe only 20-30 if I am lucky of these. I take small breaks and continue as much as I have time for.<

Hindu Pushups! That's my favorite one, but you're right-- they're very tiring. I try to do several of those every day before my workout, along with the Cobra and my own version of the Half-Tortoise (where you kind of sit on your feet and arch your back). I used to do a whole Bikram yoga thing almost every day, but didn't get much in the way of results except stiff joints, so have decided to do just these core stretch movements so I can concentrate on weight training and aerobic exercise. Two or three of the five rites movements are pretty good too, I've found, for a good stretch-type workout along with main workout.

My goal right now is to move from my present situation, where I'm getting a full workout 4 or 5 times a week, to where I'm doing it every day, no matter what. I try to go to the gym every day, but sometimes life intervenes-- music rehearsals get rescheduled, someone I'm meeting shows up late, or I get bogged down in tasks. I need to work out at home in the evening on those days, but I often forget and just wait till the next day. I also want to do more high energy dancing in place of some of my gym workouts too, as I've found dancing to be my best overall workout, and so much fun.

Talk is cheap. Time to post these changes as reminders on my refrigerator and bathroom mirror and make them happen!

Was that a joke or does his diet set limits on activity?

Kwan. Yeah I wasn't saying that as a negative. I think they work more variety muscles then any other push-up (other then maybe handstand but that works totally different muscle groups) and require alot of endurance...so they are very building for both strength and endurance... and when combined with other things make for some nice light cardio. Just my experience.

working out 4-5 times per week and going out dancing the other nights sounds like a great routine to me smiling smiley I go back and forth between wondering whether intense exercise is good every day or not - for me that is.

I like to dance like travolta on acid at a pow wow...very good exercise

perhaps they are directing their energy towards healing...like the digestive tract or something?...but yeah I interpreted it the way that you did...and laughed but that is tainted by my own views of said guru and this is a fitness thread.

Yeah, DK is one of those guys that say's you must rest/stay sedentary when your going raw or fasting, etc.

Maybe that's it?

I realized that I probably shouldn't post in this thread, as I become too obsessive if I track things closely. I had a Fitday account public for a while so poeple could see all of my raw nutrition and exercise, and it ended up being a hassle and I thought it was unhealthy *for me* to know amounts and times, numbers, etc.

So I appreciate this thread very much, and please know that I exercise and eat well every single day - but I'm not going to add more posts.

Good work, everyone!

Today I did "Get Ripped - Slim & Lean which is a 60 minute strength training workout that covers everything.

I still have to do my 120 pushups before bed and I'm going to try some Hindu push ups. I was able to find a video on youtube that shows how to do them.

lol... Yeah! Me too... well maybe not quite like Travolta, since I'm a female, but the rest fits. My dance style blends African, belly and modern dance with a bit of tai chi. If the music incorporates high intensity African, Cuban or Latin drums, I become a totally wild woman, jumping around like a Tazmanian devil.

Today I did "S.W.A.T. Workout - Extreme Weight Loss & Fat Burning." It's a high intensity interval training workout. It's a boot camp style workout with drills. It has jumping jacks, mountain climbers, push ups, boxers, squats, lunges, etc.

I love this workout. You can view a video clip of it here:

I ate a lot of oranges, cucumbers, and way too many almonds today. I've drank 2 green juices. I'm getting ready to make a green smoothie.

One-half hour of steam & sauna 2-3 times a week; varied combinations of running on a track, rowing, step machine, Nautillus machines, &/or weight bearing exercise (machines and free weights) + daily: hindu pushups, cobra, modified shoulder stand (I'm a wimp), the camel, and a few other yoga poses. Lots of walking every day outdoors.

Thanks Richard! The encouragement always motivates. ;-) I want to make sure it's clear, though, that I don't do ALL of those things on any one day; I mix & match, and I'm pretty laid back. And there are occasional days where I just totally get sidetracked by other things and don't make time for working out.

That's the way it should be done....your doing what you enjoy and I ca feel it in your writing!

Fitness should never be a pressure or separate from your lifestyle and it looks like you got a nice balance.

Hi Richard

I agree with the toning thing you spoke about in your video. I don't eat breakfast, raw veg salad/nuts/beans for lunch, and dried/fresh fruit for dinner.

I take a yoga class twice each week / a pilates class three times each week / weight train/ stretching / cardio each day at gym.

I was fairly fit prior to going all raw, but still lost two kilos. Since then I continue to increase the weights etc. when they become easy to perform.

With the extra strength I've noticed some muscle increase/toning, though I haven't lost/gained any more weight.

Some would say I don't eat enough 'calories/protein', but I don't believe much of it. My academic research has told me that nothing in the current nutritional world is 'dyed in the wool fact'. Most of it is based on assumptions, and are a guide only.

There is a strong link between psychology/physiology, as what we believe has a powerful effect on our body.

We've been fed all this stuff about what's in or not in food. It's a great boon for the meat, dairy, grain and food supplement industries. Human physiology dictates a fruit/plant based diet if possible. Definately raw, as fresh as can be and unprocessed.

We're going to get all the 'nutrients' we need unless there is a specific digestive problem. Perhaps humans have become so imperfect that we no longer are able to efficiently utilise fruit/veg for all our nutritional requirements as we once did, though many have proved otherwise. Even 'B12' wouldn't be a problem if we weren't so sterile as a society.

Ok, I'm beginning to rant'n'rave on my soap box.

Cheers, geo

In my opinion fruits are for fruits, fruits are self sustaining to a point, until it's time to feed the seeds, we are the same, in a perfect world we are our own self sustaining universe and if our bodies are healthy, we have everything we need to sustain ourselves the problem is that we are not in a perfect world, our organs are all swollen and inflamed, nothing is it's natural size and after generations of degeneration because of our cooked food diet,(look up the pottengers cats experiment) we all need to work on getting our bodies healthy again before we can even think about things like going Raw Vegan and especially Breatharianism/Solartarianism. In order to experience success on these diets you have to prime your body first and that's a gradual process, people have issues on the raw diet because they are not ready, niether are they being mindful about how they are preparing themselves and this comes down to a lack of real raw food education and experience.

Ha,ha now you got me on my soap box!

Yep Jericho Sunfire, sounds logical to me. With the 'Pottengers cats' thing, even when a generation was fed all raw again etc, they, and the following generations never fully reverted back to the original state of health. They had lost something that wasn't regained through a return to raw, and perhaps that has also happened to humans. This would account for raw vegans not living as long as you'd think, like a 100+ Even though with increased fitness and health our mortality is still around 80-90 odd yrs, which is still above the average anyway.

Cheers geo

Yeah I believe that to be true, that's why I always say that going raw simply improves the quality of your life in the present and don't look for it to help you live forever.

Be good man!

Thanks for the inspiration.
Motivation is helpful for those who exercise very little and would like to do more.
IMO, this includes the majority of the population here in USA.

There is a large minority, though, who over-stress their bodies during intense workouts, often with an insufficient endurance base.
I personally have a history of overtraining from years ago.

It is also useful to understand some basic aspects of training theory, such as how the body responds to various forms of stress.
Exercise is one form of stress.

By applying some intelligence, it is fairly easy to harness and utilize the metabolic reactions via stress response. A systematic approach can apply leverage which can help to increase health and vitality.

From the perspective of athletics or working out, I would begin with muscular enervation, force generation, endurance and speed, and build cautiously into muscular endurance, anaerobic endurance and power generation.

Maybe that was too technical.
Here is a simpler directive.
Train intelligently, enjoy, and listen to the signals from your body.

If you post a reply to this message and would like my feedback, it would be best to send me a private message to that effect. Otherwise, I may not check this thread for a while.
