Ok my father in law just gave me about 50lbs of in the shell walnuts , they were dried in the barn and taste just great!

so how the heck do i process 50lbs of walnuts ..is there a faster way then crack and pick?

i tried smashing some in a ziploc and then dumping it all in water and it failed the float test .. nuts and shell both float so that is out tongue sticking out smiley

They will keep a long time in the shell. I used
to have 2 English Walnuts in every Green Smoothie. Get a
good Nutcracker, and, with practice, you'll get quite good....WY

That's a good Zen lesson. I'll use that
thought when I think about my juicers not being able
to juice Apples properly....WY

With a little practice, it's not tough to crack dry English walnuts in your hand...but holding one against the hollow side of another in a single hand, and using the second hand to clamp around the first and crush them into each other. Try it!

When I was a boy, my Father taught me to crack
English Walnuts this way.
Last year I spent over $40 for a Rosle stainless steel nutcracker,
but rarely eat nuts now....WY

I like crack and pick ... I eat way fewer nuts that way. Kind of self limiting with all the work involved.

ive found sticking the point of a sharp knive into the wider end and twisting works better than a nutcracker, and with less broken nuts. theres a soft spot there, where the two shell-halves meet. ive tried the crushing them together and its probably good exercise but my hands got tired....also more broken nuts than with the knife...
