Lots and lots of water! Have a glance at a botany textbook before the next "adventure," OK, Eddie? : )

ooh - nasty. I bet they didn't taste nice did they? You have to cook them to remove the shikimic acid - although I'm not sure what that does to you!! You no doubt do!!

Fiddleheads are unopened, young ferns. I had thought, for some reason, that they were edible raw, as well; but I guess not. I hope you recover comfortably.

i ate fiddleheads before
while on a hike
they taste a little bit walnuty to me
never had any problems

but then again i didn't eat loads of them

i will tell you however, that i once mistook a plant for a fiddlehead
but this was not on a hike
this was while taking a walk around the neighborhood
and well... i think it was not the right fiddlehead

and it was awful

but it made me laugh
and i am glad i am alive to talk about it

it sure looked like a fiddlehead
and i'm usually very careful about these sort of things

how the heck was i supposed to know it wasn't a fiddlehead

anyhow

so tell me

are fiddleheads poisonous?

why didn't it do anything to me

i ate them raw before

but like i said

not a whole lot

it was sort of tasty

as far as it goes smiling smiley

A fiddlehead! With a name that cute, surely there's some consolation...

Darn. I really wanted to pick some Fiddleheads and try them.

I did try Ramps. They were good. Tastes like a garlic and onion all in one. Convenient.
