david wolfe update

update as per his last presentation at erewhon food store in el-lay afew hours ago.

i have witnessed the evolution of david wolfe over the last 12 or so years since i committed to a 100 per cent raw/vegan journey, and although i would say, without a doubt, he has had a greatly beneficial effect on the overall acceptance of raw food; at times along the way i have been dismayed as to his circuitous path, and how in the past he has often appeared (to me) as a product pusher, and rather apt to complicate the perfect simplicity of nature's primordial message.

however, today (sunday may 25), i am pleased to report that for me, he seems somewhat more nature guided, much less about the products. he was as usual, fun and animated, and certainly, the emphasis on this "super" food and that "miracle" solution was to the fore, but i just sensed he was a little more shall i say, nature congruent. maybe living/eating in the wild, frigid north these days has had an effect in perhaps, calming the zeal, who knows...

one terribly toxic piece of advice to which he holds fast though, is that (a good night's) sleep is for other people, but not for him. i do so wish he would draw a distinction between his personal choice as a "24/7 on" movement leader intend on getting by with minimal rest and sleep, and what he presents as optimal life guidance for the audience, as the majority foolishly always seem to love hearing permission to bizzy bizzy past midnight! advice which completely contradicts the way humyn life has been desgned by nature, and has been lived by all of of our closest relatives since.........

GET SOME SLEEP DAVID!!!!

david is a good person who in my more considered view means well, and i apologise for often sounding curmudgeonly regarding some of the so-called raw experts or leaders like him in my earlier postings here. we nust all acknowledge that it is US who disempower ourselves and elevate THEM!

Liberation:

<<we must all acknowledge that it is US who disempower ourselves and elevateTHEM!>>

Since when?

We must all acknowledge that is it US who EMpower ourselves by appreciating what is out there and realizing we have the power and choice to explore all "facts" for ourselves, modify our practices when necessary and continually discern for ourselves.

Colin,

Please bear in mind that, if he still espouses its multitudinous benefits, David Wolfe consumes boatloads of cacao. Superfood or no superfood, that's a lot of chemical stimulation, yo. Perhaps he can't sleep?

in reply to la_veronique who stated, "We must all acknowledge that it is US who EMpower ourselves by appreciating what is out there and realizing we have the power and choice to explore all "facts" for ourselves, modify our practices when necessary and continually discern for ourselves."

sure sister i agree, (with a caveat for which i am well known), and that is fine and noble, but sadly your words are a clarion call of a small minority of us. the majority are following the "pied pipers" over the cliff. certainly, it may not be the same cliff as the rotting flesh gorging, pill-popping modern masses are hurtling over, but some of the most popular "expert" advice remains inimical to humyn health, happiness and harmony.

the majority just love the "cult of personality", and want to be led, and so, together with the simple/sage advice of eating wild or at least organic fruits, veg and some nuts from most of the movement "leaders", there is also the toxic torrent of "super/miracle" capsule pills, potions, products, herbs, fungi etc. packaged with the allure of an infinitely energized 20/7 life!

re your thoughts on david wolfe's ability to sleep, i agree to some extent, however, i have never cuddled up to him at night tamukha;o))) none of us know the every day, personal, private life choices of the movement "taste-makers", and so i try to confine my comments to their public proclamations.

i realise that to this audience the subject of david wolfe is old news, but it was interesting for me, having heard him speak in 1997 as i went from vegan to raw/vegan, and again in 1999 as he rapidly graduated from neo-hippy raw/nature guidance to product/science promotion, and then i paid little attention until yesterday when i was in erewhon.

ps. erewhon food store is a great local resource in el-lay, but the farmers markets are the best! if anyone has a troubling tendency towards all the artisan raw drinks, choc bars, crackers and packaged goods, then stay away from erewhonyawning smiley))) if you can handle by farrrr, the largest raw food lifestyle selection anywhere, then (for a store), they also have a very impressive array of organic fruits n veg.

ok, the sunny beach across from our health center beckons me...

my response back was to please not in the future send me anything regarding like this ever again as i found it , non vegan and not appropriate.

i got a response back saying ..oh the deer havent been harmed and please please check out the interview

the disturbing thing is , representing deer antler as a herb when the word herb is defined as a plant product not an animal by product

anyhoo i was just extremely annoyed with the whole thing .. today deer antlers? tommorrow tigers fur? whale penis? when does it end!

and blurring the lines of vegan once again (it started with honey) antlers ARE NOT vegan or plantlike lol

OKAY, i am the very LAST person to defend or apologize for most of the so-called raw movement leaders. i was just saying that yesterday david wolfe mentioned less "products" than i had heard when i last heard him in i think, 2000. all the rest of the dangerously toxic and yes, non-humyn animal by-products are more to the fore though, such as bee vomit and yes, now deer antlers!!!! his ego mind driven body is going to live "3000 years" (on this poison) he proclaims!!!

as i say again, those with open hearts and minds will listen to such orators and authors and take the odd item that is useful amongst the sophistry, and discard anything that is injurious to humyn health.

i appreciate the ongoing dialogue jodi...

It's all about money. David Wolfe might have to get a job if he didn't sell this stuff. Or he would need to get more people like Woody Harrelson to pay him to be a friend.

Saying the animal wasn't hurt? That's like saying the cow whose skin I wear on my feet in the form of leather shoes wasn't hurt... because he was already dead when they ripped his outer flesh off.

Lee,

I don't think the deer is hurt in this formula's harvesting process, though I am horrified by the thought that Avocado and ElixirCraft are touting this substance, and as an "herb," no less! Mostly, I am disgusted that this is implied to be a natural course for raw foodists. Under what circumstances does one wander up to a living deer and suck on its green antler from the intuitive supposition that it will somehow increase one's athletic prowess? It's not exactly like walking up to a mango tree and partaking thereof, is it?

And why would these two seemingly virile gents need a boost? Colin, I ain't nighty-nighted with David Wolfe neither, but I can make some assumptions, betwixt the lines : )

I used to shop at Erewhon a million years ago! Ok, so it wasn't that long ago. It just seems like it.

Give me fresh, unprocessed food!

I'm wondering... How do they get the deer antler if not from dead deer? Do these antlers just fall off? If so, how do they know that they are not from dead deer?

Anything that promises men more hard-ons will sell. The long, slow process of self-inquiry and cleansing just isn't as marketable as something you can acquire with your credit card. At least we know where Viagra comes from and even Medicare pays for it.

As for sleep... It's a macho thing many male self-help shysters blather on about. I suppose they think the amount of sleep they need is inversely proportionate to their penis size.

Good grief.

Get all the sleep you need. Most cellular regeneration takes place during the REM phase of sleep.

All those stimulants being hawked as "super" food are only going to work so long just like crack, caffeine, and white sugar.

If it looks like a candy bar, it's a candy bar.

One of the Chinese Herbalists David Wolfe really touts, says his extract comes from farmed deer, that are farmed for this purpose, they say they treat the deer like Kings. Maybe that is true but it is not from wild deer antlers that have just fallen off.

The extract from deer antlers is big profitable business in chinese medicine

How could someone touting a natural lifestyle promote eating deer antlers?

As I like to remind people, David Wolfe eats ants! If that's not a caveat, I don't know what is. Still, to each his own, I guess.

David Wolfe doesn't eat Ants per se. He said on
one of his videos that if Ants happen to get into his Honey,
he just eats them along with the Honey....WY

perhaps you are right... perhaps those who always question, explore, modify and continue to learn are a "minority" but I'm happy to say that I have met a WHOLE HECK of a LOT of "minority" members out there like myself LOLsmiling smiley

I never feel alonesmiling smiley

I would also contend that most people DO question, DO deliberate, DO wonder whether something that is being sold to them is "right". Most people I have met admit to being confused as to what to do, whose advise to follow etc. This point of confusion is a good place to be because it will ignite a conflagration of exploration which is just the opposite of blindly following.

Interesting discussion! I heard rumors that Ann Wigmore only slept a few hours a night. She had so much energy that she didn't really need to sleep. I read this in the book Conversations with Dr. Flora

I also listened to an interview with Happy Oasis, who runs the Raw Spirit Festival. She said that she only sleeps about 4 hours a day. She sleeps from 10pm until 2am, then she is wide awake and goes back to work, or meditates and does yoga.

Happy Oasis said that the best time to sleep is between 10pm and 2am. Sleeping between these hours gives you more rest than sleeping from midnight to 8am.

I haven't tested this myself, but Deepak Chopra also told me to be in bed by 10pm. I wish I could do it! Here it is, 12:30 am, and I'm still wide awake.

I usually sleep from 2am to 8am, and I have tons of energy. I think it's due to eating raw. My wife eats a mostly cooked foods diet, she sleeps from 10pm until 8am, and she needs a nap during the day. The cooked foods drain her energy.

WY,

I second pakd4fun, while laughing heartily. Also, I saw a video in which DW mentioned eating ants, and the specific genus(something from central America or northern South America), without honey ever being mentioned. I remember he was wearing one of his handwoven earth-toned serapes and his locks were fairly short, and the interviewer, off camera, seemed emphatic about whether he meant he actually eats ants. She asked a couple of times, as if to say, "what's this now, heh?" which, oddly enough, was what I was thinking watching the video.

You know, one day I met a raw foodie who had David Wolfe over as a speaker and I unfortunately sayed something off color about the guy and she corrected me saying how nice he is and how kind he was to her son who was haveing some difficulties ect ect. I felt oh so small for makeing such blanket comments about the man who I have never met, by the way, It was my attitude and judgments that I can be held accountable for. I don't agree with David Wolfes ways and I don't run out to buy his books or products nor go out of my way to see him speak. I just don't want to get caught up in judging him. I have my own path to wander around and hopefully not get lost in. I do wish He did'nt advertise the chocolate like it was so great though.

conscious people are somewhat a rarity and usually have the abilty to think and arrive at beneficial decisions for themselves. do we really need so-called gurus with all this wonderful information right here at our"fingertips"?

personally i find most of these promoters to be crafty at their best and boring and misleading at their worst.

" think for your self and listen to to your own best advice and you have an opportunity to get it right at least 80% of the time."

right on la vie.

consciousness is our only best asset.

Let's face it: there are 2 distinct paradigms in the raw food movement. One involves ingesting a lot of supplements and exotic foods, and a strong belief that we are always severely lacking in nutrients and in need of shoring up our depleted resources. The other involves a belief that as we become more whole through a simple raw food diet, our bodies are more and more capable of assimilating nutrients from our diet and from subtle forces. I think of it as the left-handed and right-handed paths toward optimal health.
