I too see the RAW psychology as one of two distinct mindsets.

One parallels the DW-world of supplements, "superfoods,"
algae, salt, garlic, etc. That is, the superstitious-
medical-mindset whereby Health is created by adding things
to body to "create" health; ala the drugs of the Medical
Establishment. And that germs/bacteria and other mysterious
forces "cause" most diseases as a result of (mostly) bad
luck. You "catch" a cold; you don't create one through
unhealthy living practices.

The other mindset, and significantly less common, is one
whereby Health already exists within us; and that simple,
Healthy Living merely allows the body to sustain Health.
(And they need point no further than when people water-
fast they start healing up! Though unhealthy people may
suffer serious withdrawal symptoms when starting a fast -
so proceed with caution!) Raw foods, properly combined,
allows the body to merely exist the way Nature intended
it: in a state of Health. And disease is nothing more
that the body's reaction to violations of Healthy Living
(to various degrees), expressed by various genetic
predispositions. (That is, the same living practices
does not necessarily result in the same dis-ease
symptoms.) Health, therefore, is maintained and
sustained by Healthy Living; not by adding noxious
substances to the body under the guise that it will
"create" health.

There are hundreds of people and causes that need knocking more urgently than David Wolfe on this forum. Whilst he may not be be perfect, at least he is trying hard to a certain degree, whereas we have polluters, destructers ( is there such a word ? ) of forests and animals, etc. etc. etc. I think it's about time people on this forum vented their spleen on those destroying the planet and give David Wolfe a rest.

No one is venting their spleen at David Wolfe; we are merely musing about his behavior and its possible motives, as he is not a private Raw citizen, but a guru "puttin' it out there" for our consideration. Venting our spleens at the "destructors," is in my opinion, even less constructive, in that I think we have an obligation to show people a new paradigm, but gently. No one changes course in a meaningful way when berated or made to feel under seige. As the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey. But please don't eat the honey with the flies inside : )

Deer antlers fall off.

Victoria Boutenko mentions in her books about how closely related we are to chimpanzies, who eat a few insects when they can get them... and she mentions that if there is a small bug or two that end up in her smoothies (from the organic greens), well, no real problem, really.

I'm sure I've ingested a few bugs in my time. i wouldn't deliberately, KNOWINGLY, eat ants, antlers, or garden bugs, but I'm not going to have a hissy fit over others doing it, either.

As far a DW... along with ALL THE REST of the raw food "superheroes"... take what you want/need (recipes, ideas, some factoids) and leave the rest. We never really know what will speak to someone's heart, and DW may be just the person that someone else needs to open their eyes to the value of the raw lifestyle.

I think DW is subject to scrutiny here because he is so
(in my mind) anti-RAW. And then he makes a living on the
back of RAW food; when, in fact he's pushing something
else altogether which has (in my opinion) virtually
nothing to do with actual RAW FOOD. (But "RAW," I mean
fruits, vegetables, nuts.)

Granted, I've only heard DW speak 4 times. Yet, I've never
heard him say a single solitary thing about genuine RAW
FOOD! Instead, I've heard long monologues about "raw"
chocolate, "superfoods," salt water, wild-eyed government
conspiracies, alien visitations, etc., etc., etc. And this
is this so-called "Leader" of the RAW FOOD MOVEMENT?

But I do think the post above makes a very good point: in that
maybe DW is the person formerly-SAD people need to hear. While
I don't necessarily want to hear that, I do think that if you're
going from the SAD diet to suddenly RAW FOOD, and someone is
telling you something that is similar, philosophically (i.e.,
that adding things [that DW sells] to the body creates "health"winking smiley,
SAD-transitional people are probably going to be more receptive
to that than they are to say, Doug Graham, who is going to have
the audacity to tell them to eat just fruits, vegetables, and
nuts (sparingly).

DW is still within the comfort zone and medical-mindset of most
SAD-transitional people. Doug Graham, with his Health-is-your-
Responsibility mindset, is not.

Regarding the sleep thing---I know Martha Stewart always says that she only needs 3 hours of sleep every night. I believe her, but I also believe that certain people are just wired differently, and can do that with no ill effects. Re Ann Wigmore, etc. The important thing is that if you are one of these lucky people, try not to influence others that this is the only "right" way. Most of us other boring humans, even us healthy raw ones, would endanger our health on that schedule.

I am usually a wreck with less than 7 hours, but due to my raw diet am finding that lessening a bit.

The path to liberation is long and narrow. The ultimate goal for many. When we discuss health many individuals focus their attention and prioritize the importance of food as nutrition. When i speak to people, the first thing i decide to do is identify from what position will we discuss health. From the eastern occidental one, the western one, or from a spiritual one.If we determine truth is the outcome then we can with an open mind explore many views with the goal of identifying a paradigm of thinking that helps the individual evolve from the present place and position that allows him to unfold at a pace that supports him at all levels. To polarize oneself with a view that only initiates the ego and its transparent motives is unnecessary and a intellectual trap. This may not be the most benificial place to create or support healthy living. There is no need to negate any individuals choice regarding their path to health. The negative beliefs one evokes only damages his being and that is not health.Baraka Bashad.
