smoothies....with watermelon??

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever made a green smoothie with watermelon. I ask because of the saying 'melons alone or leave em alone'. I enjoy spinach & romaine as the greens & I usually have pears, apples, or red grapes as the fruit portion.

Any & all comments appreciated..

joewood,

I think a green smoothie with just lettuce and watermelon flesh should be fine. But I'm kinda chicken to try : ) Not really; I just remembered that I bought a watermelon two days ago and that I have tons of romaine. Maybe I'll go with WY's suggestion and blend them tomorrow and see if I don't die . . .

Actually, here in S. FL just watermelon (with rind) is blended by itself for a totally refreshing summer drink. (and a few ice cubes, too.)

I learned about it from a Hispanic guy who manages a fresh (locally grown, supposedly) fruit/veg stand near my home.

When I tried it, I was amazed at how quickly it quenched my thirst!

I've had watermelon blended with romaine lettuce at a potluck, and it was fine. I've also made a soup before of honeydew/black sesame seeds/mint leaves/sea lettuce, and it was really good, no one had digestive problems so I don't think it matters unless your stomach feels bad afterwords.

You should definitely relax from the "one way" stuff; there are many.

Ann Wigmore often made her energy soups/smoothies with watermelon as a base.
Fill the blender halfway with watermelon, add several cups sprouts, baby lettuces, some seaweed, then top with avocado. She often put figs or prunes in it too for newbies. I have made it several times and haven't had any digestive problems with it.
Start out with some watermelon and romaine. If that is fine...then add some other greens and try that.

Hi,

Thanks everyone. I just bought a watermelon today & I'll be making a smoothie tomorrow with it. I guess the best thing to do is experiment & see how my body reacts.
