I've probably drunk more Carrot Juice than anyone here. It
may trigger a secretion of Bile from the Gall Bladder or Liver, but it coats the
Colon, and everything slides through very easily.
I'm often told how tanned I am too, and I haven't been in the Sun....WY

..then carrots must be really good....

People with sugar sensitivity might want to limit carrot juice to 8 oz. servings.. [hacres.com] .... I read somewhere Hallelujah Acres adherants might get about 15% of their calories from carrot juice (about 3 cups/day).

Otherwise, carrots are nutrient dense and safe from what I gather. The Vitamin A in carrots is in the form of "provitamin A carotenoids such as beta-carotene"..

"What are the health risks of too many carotenoids?
"Provitamin A carotenoids such as beta-carotene are generally considered safe because they are not associated with specific adverse health effects. Their conversion to vitamin A decreases when body stores are full. A high intake of provitamin A carotenoids can turn the skin yellow, but this is not considered dangerous to health.
...
"The IOM did not set ULs for carotene or other carotenoids..."

[ods.od.nih.gov]

..so there's no upper limit (UL) set on the beta-carotene.. that's good because I go through about a kilo of carrots a day.. and a bunch of kale, also high in beta-carotene.

..I don't know in cases of liver disease or toxicity.. I would think some carrot fiber would be good for sweeping away bile.... are there further risks?

Carrots are good for you. I don't understand the hybridization argument, as eagelfly is right about their being better for you than Twinkies. Twinkies have no beneficial phytonutrients. They don't have any, actually, being not of this earth. Once your palms turn orange, luvyuu, that's your body saying, "Thanks, got enough beta carotene now, you can stop." And then you take a break. If your liver rejects carrots, you'll know.

lawofattraction - nearly all of the plants you eat will be hybrids. You have to buy very specialist seed and grow your own to not be eating a hybrid plant. Just because a plant is a hybrid does not mean that it is inferior nutritionally - it just means that it has two different parents.

Now the argument about bio divirsity is a whole different subject and not what the OP was asking about

What I like about carrots:

1. They are cheap veggies. Especially in Germany in winter.

2. You can combine them with almost everything. You can make traditional hearty raw meals from them, light asian / exotic raw meals, but also suw them in sweet stuff like halva, cake, muesli, apple-carrot salade.

Unfortunately, I am still pale despite eating a lot of carrots ;-)

But are they as good as Devil Dogs and Ring Dings?

LOL!

I love carrot juice but chewing carrots is awfully tiring.

Generally I like to juice veggies and eat fruit and this goes doubly for carrots.

I love them. They are great for my skin and since they are a root veg, they have warming qualities (according to Chinese medicine).
I try not to do too much juice because it does give me a sugar rush, and I actually like chewing them (raw or lightly steamed). Jamba Juice makes fresh squeezed carrot juice while u wait. Not organic, Im sure, but great for on the go. And those baby carrot bags are like a bag of chips for me, hehe.

no most of the pulp is pretty fine , but if you worry about it you can wad up a bit of pantyhose and stuff it in the drain hole and just yank the mess out afterwards, i do that when i scrub with oatmeal and chunkier stuff (like oatmeal or nuts) or buy one of those cheapie drain strainers found in dollar stores smiling smiley but for the most part it all goes down the drain no problem , most tub drains are large enough to handle it, but i toss down some vinegar and baking soda (1/4 cup of each) weekly to break anything up if its down there (including the wads of my long hair i shed lol) smiling smiley

i hate wasting anything .. if anything cant be eaten it goes in the freezer for smoothies later or some sort of dehydrator concoction.. if it doesnt thaw into anything resembling anything i might want to eat i scrub with it , even some of my really bad dehydrator experiments end up as scrubs tongue sticking out smiley

why pay premium $ for some skin stuff when our kitchen is a potential spa grinning smiley

in the end you can always toss the goop in the end to the compost pile smiling smiley full circle .. smiling smiley
