Green tomatoes

Date: September 02, 2009 03:37PM Seems I've heard that green tomatoes are especially toxic. I realize that many people say to stay away from Nightshades. Just the same, I'll eat the ripe ones happily. It's the green ones I am wondering about.
I've got vines growing way way out of control. It's past time to cut them back. I have cut them before and inadvertently cut vines that had unripe tomatoes on them. It's a shame to throw them away if they're good to eat. I realize there are recipes on the internet for green tomato this and green tomato that, but, I want "our" opinions. Any problems from eating green tomatoes? I also realize that many people say that eating unripe fruit is generally a bad idea because the fruit is toxic. But ... I guess you could say I'm fishing for some positive feedback about this. I'm happy to read anything though. Thanks, Troy. This way is not compatible with Zen practice. Date: September 02, 2009 04:46PM what's the benefit to eating them green? why not let them ripen? in general eating unripened fruit is counterproductive, is it not? The fruit isn't as nutritious if it's not ripe. Toxicity apart, I would just let them turn red. Re: Green tomatoes

Date: September 03, 2009 01:50AM This is why I'm considering eating green tomatoes:
> I've got vines growing way way out of control. > It's past time to cut them back. I have cut them > before and inadvertently cut vines that had unripe > tomatoes on them. It's a shame to throw them away > if they're good to eat. I don't think they'll ripen if they're very unripe. But, I will put them in the sun if they're big enough to maybe ripen. If they're very small, then maybe I'll just toss them back. For sure green ones aren't going to be as nutritious. This way is not compatible with Zen practice.
