I agree with FlipperJan.
Wheatgrass Juice is 25% Protein, and Chlorella is 60%.
They are both complete proteins. There you go DR, I gave
you something to shoot down.....WY

mywayu,

That's a weird response for a vegan raw foods board . . .

I think it probably matters in what volume one eats the food, like greens are a good source of protein, sprouts and sprouted nuts, better, algaes, excellent. But you have to consume a lot to bulk up. For everyday people protein needs, a balanced fruit and greens regimen is probably good enough. I find Western civilization's obssession with "protein" to be peculiar.

He said the best, not the highest, Wheatgrass. Are you okay, by the way? It seems like you want to purposely argue with people lately instead of communicate, like you pre-empt a post or subsequent responses by saying you know it's going to be argued with, etc. Is everything all right?

I meant to say Wheatgrass Juice and Chlorella are
the Best proteins. They just happen to be high in protein.

I like hemp seeds, other nuts and seeds, sprouted lentils, olives and avo. The protein dominant foods tend to be fatty as well (the good sort) and that's terrific for me and the kiddies at the stages we are in. Not too much, just enough and quality to lube the gears, so to speak grinning smiley.

There are many. But in principal, the source of protein should have a solid nutrient to calorie density, not contain anti-nutrients, carcinogens or disease promoting constituents, which lets out most refined & processed foods, animal products and brings us back to fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds and sprouted grains and legumes/pulses. Which is our mainstay anyway! winking smiley

Oh, that is awesome Paul! I like that a lot.

I'll remember this when I hear people talking about the benefits of chocolate, coffee, super foods, sea weeds/algae, etc. All those things that have as much negative (or more) than they do positive.

I guess DurianRider isn't going to tell us
what he thinks is the best source of protein.
I just ordered some Chlorella from Dr. Mercola. It's
more than just a good protein source, it's a good Detox
as well.....WY

As i said over at another forum from a study at IFBB there is many conditionally essential amino acids that arent ingested via vegan diet and there precursors arent either such as cysteine.

protein supplementation is probably wise long term especially if under stress, illness or high intensity athlete.

Where do I get my protein from as a vegan for over 9 years and currently racing Div 1 in road cycling and running marathons? Fruit! I eat over 3500cals a day up to 7-8-9000cals a day.

There isnt even a medical word for protein deficiency.

Isnt it funny those IFBB crew say 'vegan aint good enough, you need steak and eggs!'and then in the same breath they say 'you need to buy protein powders on top of that cos you dont get enough protein just from steak and eggs'.

"Real eyes realise real lies!"

LOVE IT!

cysteine is formed of L-methionine in the body, of which there are certainly vegan sources. Beans, seeds, garlic, lentils, onions.

The medical term is protein deficiency, same as with vitamin/mineral deficiencies lol.

The IFBB dont say vegan aint good enough not sure where you got that from, they do say though that vegans generally take in low amounts of the precursors which makes it hard for them to sythesise conditionally essential amino acids.

I dont know where you get some of your info from durian but no one says you need protein powders ontop because you dont get enough from food, its just a simple way to take in calories post workout, not everyone has time to make meals.

This is how I, only I, look at the world:

Chlorella isn't a whole food in it's natural state, it's dehydrated and tr(h?)eated. Wheatgrassjuice doesn't got it's fiber left and used as medicine and even tastes bad after a while + the oxidizing. I'm not sure if these are the best sources for a homo sapiens sapiens to eat. I find it crazy to just look at a single component without looking at the whole-ier picture.

Milk and eggs are considered as "food", only when there is an ongoing iceage or you know you will be without fruits and greeny leafs for a very very very long time.

There is no medical term as Protein Deficiency, but there is something called PEM: Protein- & Energy Malnutrition. DurianRider are right, there is no medical term called "Protein Deficiency".
People have just misunderstood the difference between calorie deficiency and PEM.It couldn't be that the meat-, dairy- and wheatindustry have been educating the people with just a small part of the truth all these generations?

The best sources for protein could just be fruits, vegetables, nuts/seeds, insects water from wild sources and the air. They all contain proteins.

Spirulina has the highest concentration of protein on earth.

Hemp seeds, hemp powder and wild amazonian jungle peanuts are also of the best sources of protein.

I think it is funny that whenever sports and vegan/raw food are talked about together it is always endurance sports. I would like to see some strength sports talked about where the athletes are raw foodies. I have seen a video of a vegan strongman competitor but he wasn't in the same class as the big boys. And powerlifters...I would like to see who some of the top vegan/raw powerlifters are and how they compare the their meat eating brothern. Just out of curiosity sake.

I wouldn't want to be in the same class as "the big boys." They eat so much fat with their "protein" that they have to take fat burners.

I lift and I'm vegan/raw.

They dont take fat burners for that reason, they take fat burners which in most cases are just silly stimulants and boat loads of caffiene to help them do cardio.

But yeah on that note is there any raw powerlifters or even raw bodybuilders?, ive talked with many vegan bodybuilders though alot rely heavily on soya protein shakes, nothing wrong with that like.

Sorry, I've talked to bodybuilders and read their interviews, they have so much bellyfat and fat elsewhere that to show off their abdominal and other muscles/cuts, they have to take fat burners, which yes, usually include caffeine. That's besides the point that it includes caffeine. The point is that their body isn't functioning well due to their high-fat diet and they need "assistance" from pills to look halfway decent/muscular. This is why sometimes I'm shocked to hear of omnis who work out/lift, and I can't even see ANY results; there's so much animal blubber there hiding the muscle and also water retention from their high-sodium junk.

(this is in general- some bodybuilders are wise enough to limit animal-product intake so they don't look so fat.)
